I have just purchased a new Soundbar (Klipsch Cinema 400) which sounds very good BUT it is a bit short on connection facilities. My previous soundbar, a Denon DHT-S416 had all the bells and whistles including Chromecast but sounded dire!I realised I had an unused Chromecast dongle (V2 I think) so it got me thinking about trying to use this to provide an optical SPDIF feed to the new soundbar.So having waded through the multitude of devices I ended up with this one - partly because it was cheap, small, appeared well constructed, has both types of digital output connector and also had the facility to choose ARC on or off for the input.Connected it all up and it streams Qobuz etc. to the soundbar just fine - which also turns itself on when it receives the signal from the Audio Extractor.The audio quality is very good (I believe the maximum throughput for Chromecast audio is 24 bit 96kHz) - certainly Qobuz tracks streamed at that setting sounded excellent - I played the same tracks from Amazon Music HD (who grudgingly allow you to cast only low quality audio) and also via the Bluetooth built into the soundbar and both sounded very poor by comparison!So, just to clarify, I have this device powered with the supplied USB cable plus a Chromecast dongle, which unfortunately also needs a USB supply, plugged into the input side and just an SDIF optical cable plugged into the output side feeding my soundbar.Obviously used this way you need to make sure the ARC switch is OFF, the audio switch is in 2 channel and you do not need anything plugged into the HDMI output for it to work.Good result for me as I could kick myself for allowing a friend to buy my Chromecast Audio dongle a year or two ago (like hens teeth now - you can buy one for £100!) but this works as well, if not better, just not so neat and compact but it is hidden behind the soundbar anyway!

Purchased this to split digital audio out of the HDMI our of the latest generation Apple TV into my hifi.The product works exactly as described / expected - takes power from TV USB out and passes image bk to the TV via HDMI out.Recommended.

Bought this for my PlayStation 5 to be able to connect my Astro a50’s optical to the system but it was a waste of time and the item has been returned. The adapter although it did it’s job does NOT support 4K or hdr pass through making it pointless when used for something like this. If using for something else where image quality isn’t as important then I would recommend as it feels like it has been well made but if your expecting hdr or 4K image quality then look for something else

This device works with every other HDMI source I have , but not the Fire TV Cube I bought it for. For some reason, according to on line sources, Amazon Fire TV Cube outputs the 2channel PCM audio "in a 5.1 channel wrapper" so this device can't decode it. Why Amazon should choose to do this, rather than out put the 2 channel audio directly is a mystery and there are no references on the Amazon Developer or support sites. Maybe the stars I knocked off should actually be knocked off the fire TV cube?

Used this to be able to connect our Samsung Home theatre (an old 5.1 system) to a new QLED Q80T Samsung TV with optical connection for sound. Finally. I'm so happy. The sound out of a home theatre is nothing like just from tv. Great product that does the job.(We did need an extra cable but that's because of our set up).

Liked the ease of setup.Liked the intuitive selection of audio and interface.This is a substantial unit and comes with some cables to get you going. Excellent quality. Highly recommended

I attached some velcro to the back of the extractor and attached it to the back of the TV set, out of the way.

Cet extracteur ne fonctionne pas en mode ARC. La description du produit est trompeuse. Il est explicitement indiqué que l'on peut récupérer le son de la tv via la prise HDMI ARC du téléviseur connecté l'entrée HDMI de ce boîtier. Hors cela ne fonctionne pas (aucun signal sur toslink ni coaxial). Aucun intérêt donc.
