I like how Atlas emphasizes the importance of radical resilience.
Kevin Atlas is missing a limb, but he didn't let that stop him from playing NCAA Division I basketball. In Atlas’ motivational book, Get in the Game: Nothing Missing: You Have Everything Needed to Succeed, he encourages readers to go for their goals and be their best selves, while telling the story of his life. He writes as if he is cheering on his readers to reach for their dreams.I like how Atlas emphasizes the importance of radical resilience. Often times, we can pick ourselves up from failure and turn terrible situations around - if we only do not give up. Throughout the book, Atlas shares important life lessons, showing us that negative experiences can build character. He encourages readers to find their purpose and passion in life. Atlas reminds us that life is a beautiful journey.I received this book for review.

More About Self Help Than Basketball
I was hoping that this book would be about basketball and how the author overcame a disability to be the first player in Division I Basketball. As I read the book, which is a good read, I felt that this was more about self-help, organizing, getting yourself right than it was about basketball. It is a good story, but I was expecting more on the basketball side then of the counselor side.

Encouragement to overcome obstacles
Kevin was born missing the lower part of his left arm. The umbilical cord had wrapped around his neck but, still in the womb, he had an arm between the cord and his neck. That probably saved his live yet left him with only a nub below his elbow. He shares the embarrassment he experienced as a child, courtesy of other kids. But there was something stirring inside him. Rather than being an obstacle, he learned to use his nub for advantage. He was inspired by the one handed major league pitcher Jim Abbott. He was encouraged by coaches and others who came alongside. He figured he had to work twice as hard as those with two complete arms when he turned out for basketball. As a result, he became the first player with a partial limb to win an NCAA Division 1 scholarship in basketball. This is an inspiring book. Kevin challenges readers to take the thing that makes us feel inadequate, the thing we think we will never overcome, and work through it and use it for advantage. Everyone has been created by God for a purpose, he reminds us. There are no excuses. He has inspired others with his motivational talks and the documentary made about him. Now he inspires others to live a fulfilling life of purpose through this book.I recommend this book to those who need that encouragement to know that what might appear to be an obstacle can be turned into a means of living our your purpose. The writing style is clear so this book would be suitable for even young readers. There are questions at the end of each chapter for personal reflection.I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

Not as biographical as I was expecting
Kevin Atlas appears to be an excellent role model for those with disabilities. He learned how to overcome his disability (having only one hand) and become the first player missing a limb to play Division I basketball. Kevin Atlas has become a motivational speaker and Get in the Game is one of his ways to get his story out to those who need to hear it. The book is motivational and self-help in nature with bits of his life story included throughout. Each chapter ends with reflection questions to guide the reader to apply what Kevin has learned to his or her own life. While Worthy books bills itself as a publisher of Christian authors, God and reliance on Him only receives passing mention in Get in the Game. As a Christian school librarian, I was really hoping that reliance on God in difficult times was going to play a bigger role in the story. There is no problem with adding Get in the Game to a K-12 Christian school library - I was just hoping for more of a biography that would fit the educational goals of our school.I received a complimentary copy of Get in the Game. This is my honest review.

Great motivational book!
Great motivational book! Explains the story of the first D1 basketball player to play missing a limb. Doesn't only talk about basketball, but rather provides ways to elevate your life and success! Good for anyone, not just athletes!
