Max Evans' Hi Lo Country: Under the One-Eyed Sky Hardcover – December 15, 2004

Max Evans and Jan Haley created a masterpiece in the presentation of this slice of Western Americana. Hi Lo is absolutely beautiful Country now on my top 10 list of places to experience before I die. I the mean time, I get to enjoy this exquisite book with both author and photographer's signatures. I hear the crackle of thunder, smell the electric musty rain driven by the wind across desolate playa and sage fields, heaven is nearby.

Anyone who has an interest in the parts of New Mexico that aren't usually on the tourist's beaten paths would love this book. It is dear to my heart as this is the country I grew up in and Evans captured the essence of this land and area, both with regards to people and place.

Beautiful and large hard cover book with color pictures and some writeup by the author describing his loved area of our country. This is a book you can share with children and those interested in the geography of our country, and one to keep in your collection.

No words, all pictures. Not what I expected.It would be nice to have some story line with the photos. Maybe I did not research the book properly before purchasing.

Like most people, who have visited this area their first time, I came across it on Hwy 64 between Raton and Clayton. Unlike most whom had said it was the most boring drive, I saw beauty. I came back taking different routes. Mr. Evans writes the exact beauty I noticed and Ms. Haley snaps detailed photos of Earth swallowing what Man abandoned. This is the only book I know of dedicated to this very area. I found it at the bookstore of the Herzstein museum in Clayton.I have another book, Magnificent Failure, dedicated to decrepid homesteads and farm implements that is worth owning. That book features homesteads from NM and other states.Hi Lo Country is my treasured book and looked upon when I get "homesick".
