Doubles as rain shoes
I ordered these for hiking, they were like-new with tags. Nice! I usually wear 8.5W, these 9s fit perfectly. It was sheer coincidence I ordered a Gore-Tex v8 but these happen to be great rain shoes. My feet stay dry during downpours. No way they're as durable as my boots but the tradeoff is they're way more comfortable. Haven't worn my boots in a while, knock on wood. The treads are not overly aggressive so you can wear them in the city with some caveats. Wet pavement is totally fine. Dry pavement is doable but not great, you can really hear your foot impacting the concrete.

Best trail running shoes ever!
These things are beastly. They can handle the trail running and more. I’ve put close to 120miles on these and the tread is still solid. So the tread life is great. Also the sides aren’t coming unglued like most trail shoes after a few miles. The gortex (sp.) is a bit hot in the summer but great for mud and water. Nothing penetrates the shoe.Definitely worth the money.

Great hiking/walking shoes, work well for narrower feet
I have been buying the SALOMON Men's XA PRO 3D for over 20 years. I have narrow feet with high arches. I feel these shoes support my feet well and because of the narrower fit. The shoes hold up well. I wear them as my daily shoes, I do a lot of walking and hiking and I normally get 2 - 3 years out of them. The two locations where they break down first is under the balls of the feet where the shoes flex and the material behind the heal seems to break down exposing cushioning underneath. The shoes are not as breathable as other shoes I've worn. On hot days your feet will get warm. However, on the flip side I wear them in the winter on my walks lots of snow and ice and my feet stay relatively warm in them. The grip is good and I've always like the style of Salomon shoes.

Salomon! I love your shoes!
You make the best shoes! Premium quality, repeat customer here! I had my first pair of Solomon's for two years and still looked like new after being wore daily. As expected the tread started to wear down and now I own these! Perfect fit, goretex, no shoestrings! Love it!

New generation = tough break-in period and limited life
I have bought about 5-7 pairs of this shoe in the last ten or so years. Unfortunately, what I heard about the diminished quality of this generation is correct.I received the shoe just prior to shooting video at a trade show. Lots of time on my feet hauling gear. I like these shoes in black because they have all the capability of a hiking shoe while appearing fairly professional. This pair had a painful break-in period that I have never experienced in any previous pair. I'm used to comfort out of the box with Salomon but it seems like they have substantial changed materials and manufacturing processes. If you do plan to purchase these, be aware.I received the shoes at the beginning of May. They became my go-to, everyday shoe (as did all other generations of these shoes). I do a bit of running in them as well, but not as much as I'd like. The main reason to pay over $150 for these shoes is that with the Gore-Tex I don't have to question whether I'm putting the right shoes on for any activity - working in the yard or going for a jog on a rainy day is no problem. However, after only 5-6 months of regular wear, the material at the toe cap is separating from the rest of the shoe. This renders the Gore-Tex useless at waterproofing. I typically expected about a year of actual waterproof wear from these shoes before.I have always been a Salomon fan since I discovered the brand in the scratch and dent section at REI over a decade ago. My past experiences gave me no reason to look into other brands. Unfortunately it seems like the brand is choosing to go into a direction leaning towards urban aesthetics and is integrating new, lower quality manufacturing processes into its legacy designs. I'm a bit sad because they have been so dependable before. I can't justify spending even more money on the shoes when they are headed to the landfill twice as fast. Too bad.
