Rant Alert: NOT worth the money
I usually don't leave bad reviews, as I realize taste is subjective. I'm a wine & spirits professional, and as a rule don't like to do reviews or "yuck anyone's yum" when it comes to wine styles, brands, etc. That said, this was a product I was looking forward to trying, as I saw an article in either Somm Journal or Tasting Panel about it. While I love wine, spirits, beer, cider, cocktails - you name it - I understand alcohol is a toxin, and we do monitor our consumption for health reasons.Lyre's seemed like a great way to do that - have an alcohol free Manhattan? Don't mind if I do! Well, in this case, don't. I had my husband pour a blind sample of the Lyre's against a bourbon (Murray Hill Club) that I thought would have a similar flavor profile. Look, I understand there are certain taste sensations that cannot be replicated in a mock alcohol product; however, I didn't expect this product to be so far off the mark in weight, texture, mouthfeel AND flavor. My husband poured the samples & said, "You'll have no problem." The look on his face said it all. I put my nose in both glasses, uttered some profanity, and sampled the sticky sweet smelling sugar water - STILL not prepared to be so overwhelmingly disappointed. More swears followed by outrage at the ridiculous price of this substandard product ensued.Again, perhaps some folks find this an acceptable alternative; and I sincerely hope it helps people reduce the amount of alcohol we consume. But in the name of all that is holy, there is absolutely no good reason to charge $35+ for this stuff. I can't even think of a good use for this right now.My apologies to Lyre's - I had really high hopes for this product.*End rant*

Uninspiring watery tanning nonsense
Doesn't taste like any sort of whiskey, bourbon, "American Spirit" or otherwise. First mouth hit is raw mash water. There's nothing there. Mixed with Woodford's Old Fashioned syrup, it tastes like watery iced tea and Old Fashioned syrup. Would not recommend and will not buy again. If any company actually comes up with a non alcoholic bourbon, they will make a mint. But I continue to despair.

I love the flavor, but product gets wasted in shipping!
As someone who quit drinking alcohol nearly a decade ago, I thought I was relegated to only ever having near-beer again. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that a highly rated product came about that very closely mimics the flavors of alcoholic drinks when mixed. After reading through other reviews and watching YouTube reviews, I decided to give it a go. Now, for the pros and cons of this experience:On the bright side, in my humble opinion, when the whisky or rum is mixed with a coke, it is SCARY how close the flavor is. You do need to mix it a little stronger to get the full flavor, but I was honestly blown away. I have tried the dark rum, spiced rum, and whisky (even going so far as to reorder it). I have also told others I know of that have quit drinking about this (and how far superior it is to Arkay in my opinion). Now for the downside. My first order (whiskey and dark rum) arrived with the bottles seeming to have leaked in transit. It probably wasn't too much, but there was liquid in the box, and the outside of the containers were sticky. I chalked it up to just one of those things. Now receiving my second order (with the bottles separated for whatever reason and a few days apart), I find the same issue yet again! This time, even more of the product has spilled out (you can clearly see the intact plastic wrapper on the neck of the bottle). Now, I don't know if it's an issue at the packaging plant when they're affixing the plastic to the neck, an issue with Amazon not properly padding the box, or the mail carrier drop-kicking it to my door, but if it happens again, I'll have to go elsewhere. It's just getting to be a waste of money.Ultimately, 5 stars for the flavor and artwork on the container, but 1 star for the way it continues to arrive at my door.

A decent alternative, with help.
I'll preface this review with I'm not looking to quit drinking alcohol. I'm a daily whiskey drinker wanting to cut back. I enjoy the act of drinking. Seeing a wonderful amber glass with a clear ice sphere, holding it and sipping it, it's a soothing experience. I've ordered a few brands and this was the first to come. I don't feel like they're trying to market this as a straight up whiskey replacement. One of the pictures even says "made for mixing". Here goes.On its own, visually it looks right. Has a nice amber color. I feel like the vicousity seems right. The smell, I was pleasantly surprised. After reading reviews here, I was expecting garbage and the smell of wet dog. It was pretty decent. There's definitely a prevalent sweet smell, but not enough to ruin the experience. Taste, on its own is just ok. The real taste experience is towards the end of the sip. The start is quite watery. The sweet taste is there, I'd prefer if it weren't as sweet but this leads me to how this is a great product with a little help from friends.First I got a glass. In went a few drops of Angostura bitters for some bite. Then I added a few drops of Scrappy's Bitters fire tincture for some heat. You can order that right here on Amazon. Then I did 1 oz of whiskey, 2 to 3 oz of Lyre's, give it a stir, drop in a clear ice sphere and enjoy. I find that to be a very enjoy solution. Is it straight whiskey? No. But I am enjoying that recipe and the result is I'm consuming 1/3 to 1/4 the amount of alcohol I would with just whiskey and I'm not losing the enjoyment.
