Vortex Optics Viper HD 85mm Spotting Scope Reticle Eyepieces

With the viper 20-60x85, it is the only option that isn't $2k-5k option, especially in MOA, that has the quality for serious use. The reticle and magnification are perfect for static long-range shooting. I was ranging large water tanks on an east facing mountain side to within an eighth of a mile, verified with OnX. mind you, these tanks are close to 10 miles away. the reticle has great utility and I wish the market for this sort of thing was a little more expansive. With everyone A) ranging targets with laser range finders, B) using spotting scopes to see holes in targets, there isn't much use for this sort of thing. For those of us who are shooting at long range with a spotter on the glass, this reticle tool is indispensable. ranging targets is nice, but to accurately make instant corrections at say, 1400 to 2000 yards is like having a superpower. I digress. If you are looking at this because this is all you can afford, you will get your money's worth.

The variable eyepiece that comes with the Viper HD 85mm spotting scope is great at shorter ranges, but struggles at long range in both image quality and field of view. Fine if you’re scanning for deer in the hills, not as good if you’re looking for holes in a target at 500 yards. This VS-85 REM (MRAD reticle version) is fixed at 33.5X, but the picture and field of view looking at the same target with the stock variable eyepiece are hands down better. I can read Texas on a Texas license plate at 550 yards with no problem as long as it’s not too distorted in the heat of the day with heat waves. And even then, I can read the larger license number. The field of view is vastly wider and edge to edge picture is solid. If you’re buying the Viper 85mm spotting scope, you really need to pick up this reticle eyepiece. Game changer. As an aside, you really need a decent tripod and some time learning how to operate the scope to reap the full rewards of the setup. Too many reviewers describing problems that are almost certainly user error. Just my two cents, hope it helps others.

As a new spotting iuser, MOA (one I purchased) was adjustable per instructions. View with 33x was OK, suggest a very good/stable tripod for scope however...

I received a genuine part and it works great. It has a wider viewing angle than the standard eyepiece. The only annoying thing is that is a little harder to put on and take off due to the small amount of the body to hold onto.

Product as advertised, well packaged with seals intact. Product itself is very clear, easy to focus and deliver very fast
