It works, power supply makes a high pitched whine.
Works fine for less than 10 bucks. The power supply emits a high pitched whine. Thankfully it uses a pretty standard 12v DC coaxial power input so finding a 12vdc power supply isn't an issue. And mind you the power supply works, but emits noise. Also, it's unclear if the converter adds any noticeable lag/delay in the signal. I might try a USB>SPDIF converter and see if that improves latency in the 50 foot coaxial cable run. I'm using this to convert from SPDIF Toslink out of a laptop to coaxial RG-6 in wall to another DAC, so reducing number of hops may help "lip sync". At any rate, it works.

Worked perfectly.
I bought a new 65" HD TV several months ago. It replace my 55" Analog TV. I belong to Amazon Prime and just never tried viewing movies from Amazon Prime via Wireless. I finally tried it and the movies played just great, but through the TV speakers. I tried connecting the TV to my amplifier via fiber optic, but no go. My amplifier is old and so the optical probably gave out. My second try was to connect optical from the TV to this RadioShack converter to the digital coax input to my amplifier. IT WORKED GREAT! I can play Amazon streaming movies on my TV and get 5.1 output to my speaker system.

Best Price, true digital integrity from Optical to digital audio.
This unit caught my eye due to favorable experience with Radio Shack products, price and not having to wait for it to be shipped from China. It works very well at preserving the digital information integrity from the TV to the Receiver without harmonic distortion. There is no noticeable loss of 5.1 multiplex or Dolby Digital signal. Be sure to examine your Optical cable before installation to be sure that you have removed the protective caps from each end!

If its stable it works fine but if something happens to disturb the cable like ...
Will not stay plugged into the adapter on the Optical in. Can't believe I am the only one has this issue. I had to wrap tape around the optical plug and tape it to the adapter housing to keep it from falling out. Optical cables usually have a snap in feature that prevents dislodging. The adapter has none. Just shove the cable in the end and hope it stays in. It does not. If its stable it works fine but if something happens to disturb the cable like the cat etc it loses connection. Returning it!

Didn't work for me
DIdnt work for me, waste of money. Giving three stars because I want to give the benefit of the doubt that it may have been the device, not the adapter.

Then you'll see why this isn't a good product to use for a TV
This 'goes to sleep' when there is no signal for a couple of seconds. Then it 'wakes up' a couple of seconds after signal comes back. Picture a pause in dialog in a TV show. Then you'll see why this isn't a good product to use for a TV. Not sure where it might work well, but it's not a good idea to use with a TV.

So far so good..
So far so good...can't beat it for the price. I wish there was a way to turn it on only when I need it as it's on 24/7?

Good Thing It Was Cheap
I'm glad that this RadioShack unit was cheap as it didn't work for my receiver. I'm keeping it as a reminder of a deal gone bad. Of course, two years from now, I'll look at it and wonder what it was for. Maybe that's an improvement over presently wonder why I got it in the first place.
