I have 3 of these and highly recommend them as a "deterrant". Yes, if someone is determined it can be broken off or they can stab the tank, but quick gas theft can be avoided if they can find a car with a non-locking gas cap (put a small sticker on your gas panel that states locking gas cap and the door may not be pried open, it may be passed up). Avoid pranks, vandalism, and gas theft with these. They are a little hard to figure out initially but simple after that. I have never had a dash light come on from these for leaking, on '09 Tacoma, '08, '11 IS250, and '12 Tundra, or '04 RX-330 (different type/model number). Excellent value.Update Oct. 2012:Excellent device and value. Always works great and easily. Worth it with high fuel prices.Update June 2013:These work great and I bought two more; one for a Chevy Aveo, and one to replace a lost locking cap, as there is no tether, nor are they made for one. My wife and I have never had a bad experience with these. Easy to use, just practice with them before you get to the pump. It locks and clicks with the key out. When you want to open it just insert the key, turn it CCW, then CW to remove the key. It locks easily and is removed easily. I disaggree with the negative reviews, but I also disaggree with the sizing advice from Amazon, do some research. If yours screws do not get one without screws, if the OEM has no screws do not get one with screws. The photos seem to be accurate. Example: I contacted Stant and they recommended a non screw 10506 for my Tacoma and Tundra yet they take a screw type 10504, not the 10506, so do your research.

I've seen reviews for this product that state that the Check Engine light comes on after installing this cap. I'd like to say I had the exact opposite experience!Like many that purchase this product out of necessity, I had my tank siphoned. The locking gas door on my 2001 Tundra was punched out with a screwdriver and replacing the lock would have cost around $60.00 Additionally, it would only have encouraged the upstanding individual who helped themselves to my brand new tank of gas to try again. Furthermore, although in a moment of compassion, the original gas cap was kindly reinstalled for me by the interloper, my check engine light went on after driving to work, and no amount of tightening the 18 year old cap was going to fix it.Enter the Stant locking gas cap. I bought it with some trepidation, based on some of the negative reviews. It arrived as promised, and fit like a glove. I assumed that, despite the fit, I was going to have to drive down to my favorite mechanic and have him reset my check engine light. I had no inclination that the cap would remedy that issue. However, after a day of driving...OFF went my engine light and it hasn't come on since.In all candor, I had a little difficulty unlocking it the first few times, but now it's like second nature and no issue.My gas door is free to flap in the wind. I won't be replacing that expensive lock. I have far more security with this cap.Thank you, Stant!

The gas cap works as advertised fit well and locks for 1986 gmc custom van

I didn’t buy because I had a problem with my old cap. This purchase of a Stant locking gas cap was just to add a little extra layer of protection from someone either stealing gas or just putting something in my gas tank. I know it’s probably rare overall, but just in case. So I have read the reviews, every so often there is a complaint of the gas cap being fake or not working right.I installed and opened and locked the cap several times. So far so good. Not the smoothest lock, but it’s something that’s made in Mexico and I’m not expecting it to be exactly OEM quality. Another thing to be aware of, check the photos. The cap stands a little taller than the OEM Lexus cap. And there is no place to put that little plastic lanyard deal that goes to the stock cap, oh well.Even though the Stant is a little taller, the door closes just fine. I also can’t speak to any codes being thrown from the cap for not sealing properly. I haven’t driven the car yet, if I see any issue I have the old cap, and I will update this review for sure. Lots of photos attached. Despite the Stant being a little taller and slightly different looking threat pitch, it still fits in the little gas cap holder in the gas door.

They shipped very quickly and the product was exactly as advertised. I bought it for a 2021 4Runner hoping based on other reviews that it wouldn't trigger an error code in the system but it did. More, once I switched back to the original cap the error hasn't cleared. I haven't tried pulling the battery yet and the truck runs perfectly normal, just, it shows a check engine light.P.S. In case this helps anyone, of my two 4Runners, 2014 and 2021, only the 2021 has that last click when tightening the cap and that's what lets the computer know it's closed.*Update: After about a week the computer reset and we don't see the Check Engine thing anymore. btw, it would not clear. It stayed visible any time you were driving. At least we didn't have to pay for a software fix this time.

I ordered this product for my ‘16 4Runner SR5 (black) but upon arrival, I thought of trying it on my ‘19 Tacoma SR5 (blue) instead. The website stated that it would not fit on it, but after reading the reviews, I decided to find out by myself. After a week of use with no problems, I decided to get a second one for the 4Runner. It has been almost a month, and neither one of the trucks has had any problems with them. The tether is very easy to remove from the original caps, and I hid them in the fuel door (as shown in the pictures). They were very easy to replace and even easier to unlock. I just wish Toyota had installed the lock on the fuel door like they did on my ‘98 Tacoma (red). I forgot to mention, price for this product is great!Im using their boxes not only to keep the original capsin them, but also the spare key taped to them because I am terrible with keys lol.I do recommend this product.
