UPDATE: Great for babies that are older
I'm going to leave my original review in tact because I still think it's relevant. I think these soothies are too hard for younger babies. I know that was the case with mine. He wasn't able to start using these until he was over 6 months old and starting to get teeth. He had been using the 0-3 months forever and rejected these that were harder when we tried to switch him over at 3 months. He instead enjoyed to play with them and throw them all over the house. But then one day at about 8 months old, he put one in his mouth and was hooked. He has two teeth and two more are coming in so I can see now why the harder material is necessary. It hasn't happened to us but I'm sure some babies may be able to bite through the softer plastic once they have teeth. I like knowing that my little guy won't be able to bite through this. And he LOVES these soothies. He still likes to play with them but he uses them at night and in the morning. We're trying to ween him from them gradually since he's now 1 and he's doing great but for now these are still a must have. I probably bought about 20, terrified of what might happen if we lose them. So far - good decision.Would definitely recommend these and this brand overall. This is the original review, but I stand corrected to some degree. I still wouldn't use these on a younger baby, especially one with no signs of teeth but it's a superior pacifier for older, teething babies.I must be missing something because the mostly positive reviews astound me. My line of thinking leans towards the more negative reviews. I normally love these Soothie Pacifiers. My son just turned 3 months old and we were using the 0-3 size, which was awesome - at least for him. For me, they have kind of been the bane of my existence because little one can send them flying across the room like he's trying out for the World's Guinness Book of Records. They usually land under something impossible to reach - like the fridge or under the changing table. And little man has ZERO patience and ZERO understanding of cause and effect. I will be a very happy Mommy the day he figures out that he can't magically suck the pacifier back in if he projectile spit it 20 feet away. The minute these things leave his lips - everyone in the room freezes in panic. There is a stiff moment of silence as the shock registers in my son's horrified countenance as his tiny lips desperately search for his precious Soothie - and then when he truly realizes it is gone - BAM! I'm surprised my neighbor's haven't called the cops on me.We've tried LITERALLY every brand of pacifier on the market and this is the only one he will take, without fail, EVERY TIME. The other brands are cuter and don't swallow his face but he's having none of it.Having lost some of our Soothies due to baby's talent to send them flying into some black hole in my house - I decided to order some more on Amazon. He's three months and I have the 3 months Soothie in blue. He takes the 3+ months blues just as well as he takes the 0-3 ones so I thought I'd pick up a couple of 3 months plus in the greenish color. I thought it was kinda cool that the color on these is a bit brighter. Now we could add super bright green to the regular green, blue and yellow in our grand Soothie collection.I immediately opened and sterilized them when the came today as I was cleaning the rest of his bottles and pacifiers. I had my handy-dandy Clean Ones Pure Comfort Vinyl Gloves on and maybe that's why I didn't notice this atrocity at first. But when my fiance went to give it to our son at bedtime, he went nuts: like flailing, wailing, screeching at us with a deep look of betrayal kind of nuts. I grabbed the pacifier immediately thinking maybe some psycho stuck a pin in the tip or something. No pin - but the material is HARD as (insert expletive). I mean seriously, it's ridiculously thick and hard. The blue Soothies are thicker and a bit more durable than the their predecessor BUT not like this. I don't know how an infant can put something so hard in his mouth and like it. Clearly my little baby was a bit traumatized by the Soothie confusion. I'm not exaggerating. It took him a while to calm down and accept his old ones (once he realized they were safe, though, he sucked away into a blissful sleep). My fiance and I really can't believe what we witnessed. This is definitely not soft silicone by any means. If I didn't have the blue 3 month Soothies to compare these with - I'd have to blame myself and perhaps give these suckers a bit more time before reviewing them so harshly. But they are NOTHING like the blue ones. So I don't understand why these are so super hard when the only difference (as far as I know) between these and the blues are their colors.I really don't like this and hope I can get refunded. I might as well give my child a silicone covered rock to comfort him. The only possible upside to this thing would have been an end to flying pacifiers. These things drop like dead weight to the floor.Maybe us nay-sayers got some Soothies from the reject pool? I'd like to find out because I do overall love this brand because their products have been soothing my son since he first entered this world. So please understand this negative review is ONLY for this particular color and style of Soothies. The rest of them have saved my sanity (when I wasn't on my hands and knees trying to shove my head in ridiculously small and crowded places to retrieve them).

Great pacifier
My older son always used Nuk pacifiers, and our baby only likes these. Each was/is totally devoted to their pacis. Having experience with both types, I prefer this kind. Here's why:These are all one piece. The Nuk's would get a little bit of water inside of the nipple when washed/boiled, and over time would get cloudy and gross inside, and little bits of dust/grime would get stuck in the seam between the hard plastic shell and the nipple. These get totally clean and there are no seams or areas for water or grime to collect. These are all the same semi-soft material. Our baby will chew on the edges to help with teething, and if he face-plants while sucking/chewing (which happened a LOT while learning to crawl) there are no hard areas to hurt him. Landing on the edge of a Nuk can hurt a little. The only annoying thing is that these bounce like crazy when dropped. We have hardwood floors through most of the house and they can easily end up 10 feet away if dropped from adult height while holding baby. We probably have one under most pieces of furniture at our house at any given time. So just accept this and buy a bunch so you have backups. On the plus side, my 3-year-old thinks it is fun to go on a "pacifier hunt" and see how many he can find while slithering under furniture.

No Issues Upgrading from the 0-3Month
My little guy loves the 0-3month version of these. I read some horror stories of babies choking on the 0-3 month version as they can "fold" them and get the whole thing in their mouth as they get older!I promptly purchased the 3+ version to prevent this (my son is 14 weeks). He took the 3+ month version no problem. The 3+ version the round part that does not go in the mouth (the flange you could say) is noticeably thicker and harder to bend. The nipple is also a bit stiffer. The nipple itself appears to be identical in size and shape as the 0-3 version. I have attached a picture that shows the difference between the two pacifiers. The one on the left is the 3m+ version. Both of the pacifiers I received are green. I haven't seen any of the 3m+ type in other colors (like pink or blue).I sanitize all my guys Soothie Pacifiers weekly in Medela Microwave sanitizer bags (I usually throw them in with bottle/pump parts). These stand up to the steam no problem. I haven't 'had them melt or deform at all.

Only pacifier we would use
The only pacifier that I have used for both of my children. We were given these after both births of our children in the hospital and they were lifesavers. I didn't use them much during the day at first because my kids didn't cry but I made sure to give this during sleep times because of the risk pacifiers have of lowering SIDS type deaths. I did breastfeed and nipple confusion didn't happen to us while using these with my second child. The soothie takes abuse (many cycles in the dishwasher and in boiling water on the stove for sterilization) and last well beyond the recommendation of the company. The soothie also can be used with ordinary pacifier clips as well. I purchased these after I realized that there were two types (newborn and 3+). The difference in the newborn and this type is that this has a harder nipple for developing teeth. I would purchase these over and over again. I know some babies may be picky but we love ours and will likely use for any subsequent children. I would place this in any shower gift bag for an expectant parent.
