Cool describes the style of jazz characterised by a relaxed rhythm and a lighter tone. This and much more is in abundance on this disc, superbly directed by Ray Farr and played with both technical skill and a penchant for this genre. Ray Farr's credentials are well known in the brass band world and he has skilfully arranged the 15 tracks on offer. It would be difficult to select a track which appeals more than another as they all have the 'wow' factor. The band is ably assisted by two great jazz performers. Steve Waterman, renowned as one of the top British jazz trumpet players both in the UK and on the international scene, is currently professor of jazz trumpet at the Royal Academy and Trinity College. Mark Nightingale (trombone) won the coveted Don Lusher award at the age of 15 and his prodigious talent is also amply demonstrated.
