best comedy film ever, but it's a drama
Who ever thinks this is a drama, the film company did not, as its the best comedy.Just hear the the talk they talk, it's not like anything people say at all. It is thefirst film ahead of Mommie Dearest in a daftish script. No wonder Judy Garlandleft this daft drama, it must felt to close to home for her. As a drama its rubbish,as a comedy its a hoot

This is a frustrating region A disc will only play on a region zone player it would not play on my multi-regional player the seller is greatly at fault here as they have not provided sufficient details about this disc.

Extremely happy with this very hard to find video!
I have been looking to purchase this video for awhile now but it has been extremely difficult to find as the film is quite old. I was so happy when it arrived at my door! Thank you!

"Valley of the Dolls" is my favorite movie. Plain and simple. No regrets!
Who ever thought Criterion would release "Valley of the Dolls" (from now on described as Valley in this review) on blu-ray? I mean, isn't Valley considered to be one of the worst films of all time, or even THE worst? It is my favorite film, and has been for as long as I can remember. YES, it is campy, has some silly dialogue, but those things make it entertaining. One thing you can say about Valley is that it is NEVER boring. You savor each scene, each line, and wait for them with loving anticipation! I've read some scathing reviews of Valley, and I disagree with them all! Where do we start? Wonderful costumes, designed by Travilla, who is most famous for designing the white dress Marilyn Monroe wore above the subway grate in "The Seven Year Itch." ALL of the dresses in Valley are TO DIE for. Hair designs by Kenneth. Great hair-dos and wigs, that would still be glamorous 50 years later! The music in the film is composed by none other than John ("Johnny") Williams, who is of course famous for later scoring "Jaws," "Star Wars," and countless other Oscar winning films. A great score, Johnny! The songs by Andre' and Dory Previn are fantastic. "I'll Plant My Own Tree," "Come Live With Me," "It's Impossible..." All great. The transfer is wonderful! All the eyeliner is intact, and even more spectacular. Parkins is ravishing. Lee Grant heats up the lasagna in hi-def!! R.I.P. Patty Duke, Sharon Tate, Paul Burke, Martin Milner, and others. Thank you for such an enjoyable romp through catty, campy Hollywood! I bet it's not TOO far from the truth of what the industry is really like.

It's not camp!
I've seen this movie many times, mostly on T.V. back in the day, so it was always "pan-and-scan" versions. This Criterion Blu-ray is outstanding......great widescreen picture, and fantastic sound. It was like watching it for the first time. And, I'm a 59 year old gay male, and never understood why many people say it's "camp" --- I know what "camp" is (my partner had a highly successful, campy show), and this isn't camp. There are some "camp" moments, certainly, but mostly it's drama-driven, much like "Peyton Place", and it's heart wrenching in many scenes. Patty Duke delivers an amazing performance, and her scenes of being in rehab ring true, as I had a sister that went through that. All of the performances are tremendous, and Sharon Tate was just gorgeous. Beautiful, beautiful movie, in my opinion.
