Brilliant and accessible; a must-read for therapists!
Despite the brilliance and complexity of Atlas’s ideas, her writing remains accessible. Her clinical stories are layered, nuanced, and grounded in theory but the narrative remains clear and compelling. Due to Atlas's commitment to transparency and vulnerability, the result is a book that is both original and provocative. Atlas expanded the way I think and has impacted my observations in the consultation room as a psychoanalyst. Reading this book would make any clinician better and the fact that it's such an enjoyable read is a wonderful incentive to do so!

A book filled with new ideas on human sexuality
Dr. Atlas presents fresh ideas that I have found useful with patients in my clinical practice, especially on the link between desire and loss, and the many ways that desire is fueled—or diminished—by childhood trauma, hidden aggression, and what she calls the “pragmatic.” This book should be required reading for therapists everywhere.

A theoretical jumble.
This book needs intense editing or re-writing. Theory is highly questionable.

Too narrative
This book is less factual and more narrative. Very unenjoyable.
