Good Beginning
I really like Maize and her guys. I actually like that there isn't a drawn out beginning to the relationship despite Maize's reluctance, which she has legit reasons for. I'm just really glad that the pushing the guys away stance has been given up on. That could have dragged on, but didnt. I think that Maize and her men will be good for each other. This book is mostly set up, so I'm looking forward to some action so we can really see Maize, Valerio, Cannon, Chait, Maddox, Charm, Phillip and Zed at work.

Confusing
This is my first book by this author and I frankly its disappointing. The description held such promise for a great novel, but the writing was very disjointed. I don't know if this had an editor, but the flow of the story was not great. Coming into the beginning felt as though I missed a whole backstory even though the title labels it as book one of a series. The introduction of the men was confusing. Maize enters the academy residency already knowing who these guys are but then doesn't. She calls them her mates without barely knowing their names? Then one or two men pop into the room without an introduction, but gets angry and leaves. What is going on? More questions with no explanations continue throughout the story. As with any PNR the reader should be able to follow the storyline and have the mystical world explained for easier reading. Maize's stream of thoughts give information bits but not a complete outlook to how this world works. I read many Paranormal and fantasy books and not one of them have the same world building like the others. Perhaps there is a prequel story I am not aware of that explains things, but otherwise I felt very confused and frustrated. I hope there is a re-edit in the future because these characters have potential to make things interesting.

Absolutely amazing!!!!
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!! I have reread this story 3x from the day I received it up to this review and honestly I’m proposing going to read it again this weekend. This book was absolutely amazing from start to finish. I loved the overlapping characters, the character development, the plot, and how the relationship progressed. The ending with Charm was amazing since they butted heads so much in the beginning of the book. I can’t wait to see the rest of their relationships unfold. M. Sinclair has once again written an amazing story that sucks you and won’t let go.

Love Maize and her men!
I live how protective Maizes mates are becoming over her! She is such a sweet character , they are exactly what she needs. I love that charm was the first one she marked, even if it was an accident!! Ready to read the next book!!

Loved everything about it!
I am a huge fan of M Sinclair as an author. I have loved every one of her books. This one is no different, I absolutely loved it!!Maize is a strong FMC. She has had it rough. Her abilities make her a pariah. She has been mistreated by almost everyone her whole life and even the people that weren't against her, didn't want to get all that close to her.Because of her loyalty to her Queen, Maize ends up sticking around after she is set free from being held prisoner by her father. Despite the fact that she can tell nobody wants her around, she puts up with crap because she is just that loyal. Enter a group of guys that she gets paired to work with. They are not like everyone else. They see Maize for the person she is and are for the most part accepting and supportive of her. Though they have some issues to work through (what relationship doesnt) they all work well together and just click as a group.Overall, I thought the storyline in this book was top notch. It has some cross-over from some of her other books and while I don't think you have to have read them to understand this book, I highly recommend reading them because they are also awesome books.

possibly too many men
I really liked this boo.k overall but I think there were too many guys.Pros: I really liked the FMC. She was strong but also very emotionally raw and vulnerable. I know other reviews say she cried too much but I think I would’ve reacted similarly. She felt so alone and unloved.Cons: There are seven men. A harem this large is hard to navigate. I often felt confused trying to keep their reactions, histories, and internal struggles straight. Some of them were kinda mean to her in the beginning and though it was mostly explained later, I kept struggling to keep up with 7 backstories while wading through their internal dialogue.I still gave this 4 stars because the story was really good. Maybe if there were 4 or 5 guys it would’ve been less confusing.Sex: steam but no sex in this book. There’s build up so there will probably be some in future books. Doesn’t seem like there will be any MM.

Great story, well written.
The story moves quick and you cant help but feel sad for the over powered female fae that everyone seems to fear or hate due to her father and race, the dark fae. You can read as a stand alone which I did but it would be helpful to read the 1st book that mentions grey and her mates. The story begins with Maize who has been rescued and placed safely with gray and her household. Her father had been using her as a battery of power but had been defeated by the queen Grey. It follows Maizes story as she moves with two men shes already met 'off camera' or before this book, that have helped her heal slightly. Maize then moves to what only can be described as a barracks with a group of powerful dark men who have tragic back stories of their own. The story is about how Maize tries to overcome her fear of herself and trust others. The only negative if you can call it that, is really confusing for me. We seem to go from lunch to bed every day quickly. It focuses on building sexual tension, it does that well but then nothing really occurs in this book apart from the meeting of the men and they all realise they are mates. The rest is feelings, lunch and bed. I'm not complaining just wondering if this has made the book for me or made me feel frustrated.

bored
I do enjoy how this author writes but again another of her series is going to be not finished, her books to me are for teenagers only. all the female characters are the same type of girl in each series.. emotionally & physically damaged, which is a base for story but ALL series! even the male character types are the same..this is the 3rd or 4th series ive tried to finish reading.. i usually last till the 3rd book but thats with flicking past the boring long winded sections. this book is as far as i can go, why i tried this series after others, like i said i enjoy how she writes so i hoped she might get better in type characters and be a bit more unpredictable in her stories 🙁 wont be reading anymore of her books.. which is a shame

Yes!!
So happy that we got to read Maize's story. I always liked her from the previous books and to get some insight on her was fantastic! Loved getting to know the men as well, some of which we met in the red masques series and in savages! I really looked forward to more in this series.

2nd time reading
I really enjoyed this book! I saw that a few of the others came out so I wanted to re read and so I could understand the next ones and I’m so glad I did! I loved everything about this book! Hot men, flirty glances, snarky responses and angsty turmoil… it is all leading up to explosive chemistry. I can’t wait to read the next book

Another must read
Maize is another amazing fmc from the great M. Sinclair. She is kickass while trying to deal with her own personal scars. I cannot wait to see how her story progresses.
