Bob at his early best
For me this and Smoking OPs are Seger’s strongest up to Night Moves. Night Moves changed everything.I like the sound of his early stuff. It’s more raw. I sure like it 100% better than Like A Rock.

Wonderful Album, Brilliant Recording
I felt a little guilty ordering this as I've read that Bob Seger didn't want the album reissued and it really should be the artist's prerogative to decide what's done with his work. Still, I loved this album back in the day and vinyl copies are impossible to find in decent condition -- mine is long gone. So, I bought it and I'm glad I did. It's a great album reproduced perfectly. It's on my DAP now and I'm listening to it a lot. Sorry, Bob -- I admire your work and just had to have this album again. I wish you'd reissued it yourself.

Love this!
I'd been trying to find "Rosalie" - it's here & in the original version. Sound quality is perfect on all songs on this CD.

better than expected!!
after I recently heard the studio version of Turn the Page for the first time ever, I went looking for the "Back In '72" album on cd or as a digital download, only to discover it's never been officially released on cd or digitally, I took the gamble and purchased this cd, was afraid it might be a shoddy transfer from an album, but the sound quality is superb, and was well worth the purchase.

Lost Classic
Back in 72' is one of three albums made by Bob Seger under the Palladium record label (founded by his manager Punch Andrews) after fulfilling his original contract with Capitol records in the early 1970's. Back in 72' is the only one of those three albums that have never been reissued , which makes Back In 72' a rare album available only as a CD-R or used LP.Back In 72' was the source of two songs that made it to the Live Bullet album. "Turn the Page", which has become a rock anthem and staple of Bob,s live performances and "I've Been Working" credited to Van Morrison survive via Live Bullet. There are other fine tracks on Back In 72' including "Rosalie", a song about a Detroit DJ that garnered more success for Thin Lizzy than Bob Seger and "Neon Sky" a reflective ballad about painful choices between one's family and career. Neon Sky resonates with Seger's bittersweet hope that the effort will be worth it as he and his loved one "walk into the sun". "Neon Sky" and "Someday" off of "Smokin' O.P.'s" echo Bob Seger's frustrations with the lack of success (at the time) of his music.Wile the album lacks production values of his later works it is filled with fine songs written mostly by Bob Seger (I've Been Working and Stealer are the only exceptions) and song with heartfelt sincerity. Whether as a used LP or CD-R copy it is a worthwile addition for the Seger fan.

Possibly Seger's Best
Okay, so I understand that the masses didn't really know Bob Seger when this album was released in 1973. What I can't understand is how, after his fame, this wasn't immediately reissued and turned into a multi million seller....and I sure as heck can't understand how or why Bob Seger thinks it's a sub par album. It is quite possibly his best overall album - not a single sleeper on it. Maybe most notable is the studio version of "Turn the Page" in which he turns in an almost fragile and clearly emotional performance that allows you to hear and feel the exhaustion and futility of those long hard hours traveling on the road. Back in '72 was a staple of his live shows back then and it still rocks with a great funky rhythm and terrific lyrics. So I Wrote You a Song and Neon Sky give a hint of the ballad king he was to become, with the former showing innocence and the latter touching reality. And if anyone wants to know what Seger sounded like when he had grit, was hungry and growled out heavy rock, Midnight Rider and Stealer will blow you away. The vocals on Stealer have to be among the best rock vocals ever recorded. If you don't have this album, buy it, steal it, write Bob letters begging for it - but get it somehow. It's one of the best rock albums you'll ever own.

A classic album with great CD sound
I have listened to my vinyl copy of this album for years and transferred it myself to my digital library. I always believed the CDs for sale on Amazon were poor quality bootlegs mastered from vinyl sources. Nothing could be further from the truth. These CDs appear to come from Argentina and apparently someone possessed a high quality tape master of this album. The mastering of this CD is excellent and the CD is nicely packaged in a professional manner. I know Bob Seger isn't especially enamored with this album, but I believe it is one of the finest he's ever done. The studio version of Turn The Page is amazing and his tribute to CKLW music director Rosalie Trombly. deserves to be heard by all Seger fans. There are so many excellent tracks on this album from 1973 that deserve to be on classic rock radio today. It's just great to hear it from a quality tape source without the surface noise from a 46 year old well played album.

Endlich!

Back In '72
