Fascinating french singer
Last summer I was at Starbuck's one evening and heard an amazing rendition of "Paint it Black" being played in the store. "Paint it Black" was originally written and performed by the Rolling Stones and appeared on their Aftermath L.P. in around 1967. Not many artists have covered this song. Eric Burdon and the Animals did one cover version that I like.I was really taken with Marie Laforet's version. Very difficult to describe. Her version has a really hard driving rock and roll sound that I am sure Jagger and Richards enjoyed if they heard it.She was a very popular singer in France and all Europe back in the 1960's and 70's, but I had never heard any of her work until the other day in Starbuck's. When I arrived home, I immediately went to Amazon.com music and downloaded this music CD that contained the "Paint it Black" song. The rest of the songs on the album span many years of her career. She had a very versatile voice and I enjoy listening to the CD every so often.
