Wingdigger Compost Aerator

We are just starting our composting project. I am looking forward to using this to turn our pile as it cooks. Thank you.

Very disappointed! A neighbor has one of the same brand, but it's made of metal and works perfectly. The one I got is plastic (which isn't stated in the product description), and the wings on it do not always open when pulling it back out after plunging, which makes it almost useless. The wings have to be manually opened each time.

I tried out my new acrylic turner/aerator and it seemed to work well but I had a heck of a time getting it down to the bottom of the composter. I think this happened because I was never able to turn it with a shovel or fork because the opening atop the bin was too small. I used an old ski pole without the web but while it made a hole to the bottom it just compacted the sides.I am determined to have good compost this year so I dumped out the composter, chopped up the contents, and refilled the bin. It's now relatively easy to plunge it to the bottom.From now on I'll follow the directions on the wrapper and "WINGDIG" faithfully each time I add material to the bin! ( Promise?)
