Good movie

Great action. Plot is always great. Classic Bond.

This was the first movie my husband saw when he was a teenager. We are much older now, so I thought it would make a good Father’s Day present.

This released when I was 14, and the blend of spies, action and manned space thrilled me then. Though I was only 14, I had to squint at the dumb incongruities of space gear in the film. Aside from that, I returned to the theater over and over to watch it. There is a lot of hiliarious badness in this film that I really enjoy today. They blew a HUGE wad on the volcano Spectre base set, but really cheesed out on the volcano eruption shots at the end. This MI-5 Double O Agent has to have "NINJA" explained to him? OK, they were explaining it to the audience. The "asian" makeup job on Sean... is SO bad. "In Russia, we say Cosmonaut", dialog of the prisoners who after days of confinement together are just getting around to this. They launch a Soviet spacecraft on a Gemini Titan and launch a US Gemini on an Atlas Agena (I couldn't ignore this even at 14). If they'd swapped those boosters it would have been closer. Very few knew what Soviet spacecraft looked like then. If the Gemini astronauts wore the OSATO space suits with some webbing harness and the Cosmonauts wore the suits they had the US Astronauts wearing (Whatever those were), it would have been closer. I guess the Spectre astronauts could wear the Mercury suits. (Those looked like real flight gear.) With the elements they had, shuffled around just a little bit, they could have been close enough They should have hired a 14 year old tecnical advisor. I get it that these moves are basically live action cartoons. I still enjoy indulging in them, like spooning down ice cream.

In You Only Live Twice,James Bond comes face-to-face for the first time with his arch-nemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld, in this 5th installment in the Eon series. In previous adventures Bond had battled Blofeld's deadly Spectre subordinates and proxies, but never engaged the big-bad himself. Filmed in the wake of the two Bondmania extravganzas, Goldfinger and Thunderball, this 1967 Sean Connery entry does its best to outdo it's illustrious predecessors. The film features arguably the most spectacular Bond set-design of all-time, as 007 tracks the elusive Spectre mastermind to his Japanese, volcano rocket-launching base, a massive set built at London's Pinewood studios.Drawn from Ian Fleming's novel published only 3 years earlier, the film is set almost entirely in Japan, and features numerous Japanese actors, as well as Donald Pleasance as the famous villain with the white persian cat. Bond has never been bigger.Seemingly exhausted by it all, Connery announced his retirment from the role during filming, with this being his 5th Bond in 6 years. But he would return four years later, for one final fling in the offical series with Diamonds Are Forever, before turning the tux and shoulder holster over to Roger Moore.

Da sich beide Länder die Schuld zuweisen, besteht die Gefahr eines Atomkrieges. Um der Geschichte auf den Grund zu gehen, inszeniert der britische Geheimdienst in Hongkong den Tod von „007“, damit dieser heimlich in Japan ermitteln kann. BOND findet heraus, dass sein Widersacher BLOFELD (Donald Pleasance) dahinter steckt, der einen perfiden Plan hat um die Weltherrschaft an sich zu reißen …..SEAN CONNERY spielt seine Paraderolle wie immer sehr souverän uns smart, mit DONALD PLEASANCE wurde der perfekte Darsteller gefunden, um den Gangster „Blofeld“ überzeugend zu spielen. Ursprünglich war der Tscheche JAN WEYRICH für die Rolle vorgesehen, der aber nach wenigen Aufnahmen durch PLEASANCE ersetzt wurde, weil er den Produzenten zu „freundlich“ war.Das BOND-Girl war dieses Mal die Japanerin AKIKO WAKABAYASHI, die die hübsche Agentin „Aki“ spielt. Ich persönlich finde, dass sie eines der attraktivsten BOND-Girls überhaupt ist, leider drehte sie nach „Man lebt nur zweimal“ nur noch einen einzigen Film.Die „Gadgets“ sind immer ein Highlight, dieses Mal fährt JAMES BOND keinen „Aston Martin“, sondern wird von BOND-Girl AKI im Toyota 2000 GT Cabrio herumchauffiert.Ansonsten gibt es Saugnäpfe für Knie und Hände, mit denen man an der Decke klettern kann, schießende Zigaretten und „Little Nellie“, einen zerlegbaren Mini-Helikopter, der in vier Koffer passt. Das ist wirklich gnadenlos gut, das macht echt Spaß!Die Filmmusik ist auch jedes Mal ein Thema, der von NANCY SINATRA performte Titelsong „You Only Live Twice“, gehört für meinen Geschmack zu den Besten. Das ist ein typischer BOND-Song mit viel Orchester, etwas geheimnisvoll, gute Musik.Anzumerken wäre noch, dass die Organisation S.P.E.C.T.R.E., die in den vorherigen Teilen in der deutschen Synchronisation „Phantom“ genannt wurde, hier das erste Mal so wie im Original genannt wird.„Man lebt nur zweimal“ war der vorerst letzte BOND-Film mit SEAN CONNERY, der diese Rolle einfach satt hatte. Man verknüpfte CONNERY zwangsläufig mit der Rolle des „James Bond“, um nicht festgelegt zu sein, wollte er auch andre Filme machen. Trotz eines verbesserten Angebots, lehnte er es ab den Agenten ein weiteres Mal zu spielen, vorerst, sein Nachfolger wurde dann ja GEORGE LAZENBY.Mein Fazit: Dieser BOND-Film biete alles, was einen guten BOND-Film auszeichnet. Es gibt böse Bösewichte, schöne Schönheiten und jede Menge verrückter Ideen, die sich die Macher ausgedacht haben. „Man lebt nur zweimal“ gefällt mir richtig gut, ich persönlich finde, dass er mit zu den besten Filmen der Reihe gehört. Nicht nur für BOND-Fans empfehlenswert, für die allerdings ganz besonders.
