I already own a pricier battery-powered GE lantern I bought at Costco a few years ago. We have Santa Ana winds and tropical storms, which are getting worse every year, and I use that lantern for home power outages. I've loaned out my Costco lantern to neighbors on both sides of my house when winds caused trees to bring down power lines (fires on both sides of my fence!). They were so appreciative of the loan.I wanted more lanterns so everyone in my house had a personal light source during outages, and I was happy to find this product at such a great price with good reviews. The lantern is very light-weight because it has a plastic housing, which feels durable. The four D cell batteries make it heavier, but it's really a nice weight. Heavy enough to withstand high winds, but not too heavy to carry around. The light is BRIGHT! Even on low, it throw out a good light at 360 degrees. It has low, medium, and high options (and off, of course). This model does not have an emergency beacon, but we plan to only use it for home. If you are thinking of getting a lantern for your vehicle or for camping, I suggest getting one with a flashing mode for an emergency signal.I love the handle! It easily unlatches on one end so you can hang it from a tree branch. My BF suggested wrapping cordage around the handle in case you needed it for a thicker branch or beam. I won't do that for home use, but I love that idea and plan to do that to the emergency lantern I keep in my vehicle.I've only just received them, so I cannot testify to their lifespan or durability. I did test them and they worked fine right out of the box. One thing about closing it after inserting the batteries: look at the shape of the middle section between the batteries. It's shaped like a skewed star, and so is the middle of the bottom you screw on. Match them up first, or you'll get frustrated trying to fit the bottom back on. That was not addressed in the instructions.Because I hope I don't use them very often, I plan to keep the batteries in bags attached to the lanterns so they don't corrode and ruin the lanterns, but they are quick to find. Don't want to be stumbling and fumbling in the dark looking for batteries I forgot to replace!All in all, I am very happy with this product, and have high hopes they last a long time.

GE got pretty much everything right on this LED lantern. Runs of 4 D-Cell batteries (I expect it will run MANY hours on those), and the batteries are easy to insert. The three brightness levels are a nice touch, and the brightest level is really bright! The light is a good warm color. The handle unlatches on one side so you can hook it over thing like a tree limb. The lantern is a nice size, and the power button is easy to find and operate. I just got back from a camping trip where I put about a dozen hours of use on my lantern, and it worked flawlessly. You won't go wrong with this lantern.

The lantern is the perfect size and it is really bright. It has 3 different brightness levels that all work well and it hangs well. Worth the price.

During two power outages an excellent emergency light source. Always keep it handy since we live in the mountains- being stuck in snow without power is no joke.

Not the brightest lanterns on the planet, nor are they super tough, but they work well for the price. They put out a decent amount of light for their size and get a very decent run time per set of batteries. I bought them for cheap backup lighting during a power outage, and they work well for that.

This is a fine, medium priced lantern with medium and bright, settings controlled by a single-button switch. A well designed handle opens and closes for easy hanging.. The lantern can be seated on either end on a flat surface. The upside-down position is excellent for reading at a table or in a tent. I found that glare could be greatly reduced by adjusting the level of the light source relative to the eye level. This appears to be facilitated to by special design of the inner tube surrounding the LED. Changing the batteries takes a little practice, but with good illumination it is not difficult.

I bought this for camping (my second one) and have used it several times during residential power outages as well. The low position puts out LOTS of light, let alone the medium and high settings. I have put four batteries in this lantern and have yet to run them down thanks to the LED technology. The built in carbinger in nice to for hanging up on a limb. I have acidentaly left it out during a downpour while camping, let it dry out and it lit up good as new.

I am very disgruntled by the way the lantern was packed! I also purchased an eight pack of Energizer D batteries, which were shipped in the same box. There only were a couple bubble pillows sliding around loosely in the box, protecting NOTHING. When I picked the box up off of the porch, the batteries were LOUDLY BANGING UP AGAINST THE PLASTIC LANTERN. I can only imagine what abuse it's taken from the warehouse to the point of delivery. This isn't exactly a top of the line, built to last item. It's plastic!I guess if it stops working suddenly I'll know what happened. 😳

I liked everything about this Lantern. We have used it several times in power outages. We can still play cards or games when there is no tv or internet. I've used it when doing puzzles...to see the pieces better. The light has 3 different settings. All settings have been used in different situations. I loved this so much, I've recently bought a second one for my Mom. Just gave it to her and she's used it several times already. She says it's great in the pool house as there is no light in it, she's always used just a flashlight. Well, this lantern lights her way to the pool house and then all of the area in the pool house. Don't have anything but good to say about this Lantern. We both love it! Highly recommend it.

Es muy simple de usar ya que solo pones 4-D pilas y listo, es pequeña solo mide 25 cm. desde la base hasta la parte más alta sin incluir el asa, el nivel de luz más alto es increíble ya que alumbra muy bien, además tiene un nivel intermedio y bajo, me decidí a comprarla por los apagones ocasionales en la zona donde vivo y los que son provocados por los terremotos en la ciudad de México, es una gran compra y si tienes la posibilidad de comprar baterías recargables es aún mejor.

I like everything about this lamp. Sturdy, has a handle and gives tons of light. Easy to get batteries in.

Me gusto que la agarradera se abe muy bien para colgarle, muy bonito color y la ensignia de GE le da mucha vista!
