Just the right size~

The Good:* Perfect size and weight. It's smaller than it looks in the pic, and this is a good thing. I've only used more "standard" sized dopp kits in the past and they really encourage you to take more stuff than you need when traveling. This is large enough to hold everything I need, and not more. It also got me to start using travel sized containers for things I don't need that much of on the road (like hair products - a tiny container can easily hold a weeks worth. Try it). I ALWAYS keep my dopp kit in my carry on since Ive had my luggage lost or delayed at least a dozen times. The fact that this is smaller and lighter that other dopp kits makes it a lot easier to stuff into a duffel or even a biggish briefcase. It's just easier to pack and carry than any kit I've used in the past.* The materials are good. It says its waxed canvas, but it really feels more like a heavy canvas cloth than actual waxed canvas. Again, this is a good thing. Real waxed canvas can melt and leave residue in hot conditions and it has a smell to it. This doesn't have that - it's just really, really sturdy canvas. The leather bits are good, too. Not fake, or cheap feeling, but actually sturdy.What you should consider before buying:One, because it's canvas if you leave it on a wet counter it can get wet. Again, it doesn't feel waxed to me, and if it is it's not waxed enough to really repel water, especially if it's sitting in it. The interior is lined with nylon, so it's not likely to soak through, but it's something to consider. I sprayed mine with a heavy coat of outdoor scotch guard to improve the waterproofing, and water just beads on it now. The advantage of a leather dopp kit (usually with a plastic bottom) is that you can just wipe away any mess or moisture. That's not really the case with this.Two, it's not elegant. It's not meant to be. It can feel good to have nice leather travel pieces for biz travel, so it really depends on what you're looking for. If you want something very functional for travel, this is it. If you want something that looks nice in a set with your leather luggage, this isn't it.Three, it's not for people with high-maintenance grooming needs. If you need to carry makeup along with your toiletries, this probably isn't for you. I keep all my liquids in a plastic bag inside it and everything fits easily, along with a brush, glasses case, and one or two other things I might need. If you need to carry more than the basics when traveling, get a bigger kit.Overall, it's definitely rugged enough for outdoors use (great for camping), but I'm using it as my regular kit for business travel now and I think it's just perfect for that, too. The best thing about this to me is that it made me rethink how I pack my dopp kit. Now instead of transferring my regular toiletries back and forth between my medicine chest and kit, I just keep this stocked with everything I need, in the right sizes, and I'm always ready to go on a moments notice and I dont have to worry about whether or not I forgot anything (or brought more than I needed to bring). Having this ready to go at any given moment makes the rest of my travel preparations easier to manage.

I had hoped it was larger in both width and girth. But my husband liked it anyway.
