Who is this Jesus you imagine?
This is clearly good work, rendering the Greek texts well. I think his work on a new Gospel in an interesting way of reviewing available texts and taking those pieces which enable him to portray Jesus as he believes him to be. It's a way of beginning a conversation about the Jesus we believe we know from our experience, the texts available to us and our informed imaginations. I was both blessed and challenged by this work.

Narrative excellence
Reynolds Price has done a superb job in presenting the gospels of Mark and John in an amazingly fresh style. He is the master of narrative having written scores of novels and teaching narrative writing at Duke University for over 4 decades. The freshness of the Marcan narrative will renew your love for the gospels, and give you fresh insight into the minds of first century Christians in Rome. I recommend this book for any serious Bible student or the average reader for whom the gospels have lost their luster.Doug Smith

Three Gospels Revisited
I read this book fifteen years ago, because I love Reynolds Price's work and because I have an interest in the new testament. I found it stood up well to time. It's a well researched and beautifully written book. I had given my original copy to a friend and was glad I bought another copy.

Something very close to a brilliant look or analysis of these four gospels
Something very close to a brilliant look or analysis of these four gospels. I found it a great source of information thus very inspiring.

A literary translation
The essays with the translations are full of information. The translations are done by a person who is sensitive to the literary techniques of the original so the translations have a similar feel as the Greek. Unlike many translators, Price has no problem of properly using "I AM" when Jesus clearly is saying that. If you wonder who Jesus said he was, read this. It is clear.

A writer approachs these texts as only a writer can...
Reynolds Price is a brilliant, prize-winning writer, an ancient languages scholar and Christian, apparently. His approach, from the literal translation of two gospels, to the writing of his own, is fresh and eye-opening. Highly recommended to those who choose to look deeper into Christianity and its founding texts.

Great read for Christ followers
Amazing book. It was good enough to be mentioned in a Tim Keller sermon. If you are truly seeking the Gospel, I suggest this book.

Interesting but not insightful
Initially interesting but no critical depth of analysis. Hoped for a wider range of interpretations. Didn't add much to general frameworks.

Really enjoyed reading Reynold's price translation
Really enjoyed reading Reynold's price translation. But what I enjoyed the most was his introduction to each book. A lot of literary insights that I would not have gotten just reading through scholarly commentaries.
