Avoid this book and go with the second in this series
I had the Fantastic Codeword Puzzles 2 and thought it was terrific. I’ve had hours of fun with it. So, I bought The Ultimate Codeword Book 1 by the same puzzle designer and found the formate to be unusable. In the Codeword puzzles 2, if you think you know the letter that corresponds to the number, you can turn to a page that will have a key and you can check your guess. In The Ultimate Code Word book 1, all you can do is look at a finished puzzle which does not allow you to check a letter, instead you get whole words. That means you are getting much more information than you want or need. My recommendation is, go with book 2 and avoid book 1

Disappointing compared to other brand
What I LIKE: good quality pages, can handle plenty of erasing for mistakes, nice formatWhat I DISLIKE: 1) Out of the 25 puzzles I've done so far, there are MANY repeat words, even in consecutive puzzles, 2) although the puzzle is size-wise larger than other brand, there are only 12x12 boxes instead of 15x15 boxes. This means there are fewer words to use letters, so there are fewer clues (but they use the same words so that's a "cheat") and quite a few times, there are multiple letters that are only used once. 3) While this book is printed in the USA and there is no mention of another country I could find in the book, I have already come across instances of U.K. spelling of words (tyres, litre). 4) This book includes the occasional proper noun. (Jesus, Russia) 5) This book actually includes CONTRACTIONS as words (youve, and others I can't remember). Perhaps in other countries, proper nouns and contractions are used, but NOT in U.S. word puzzles, in my experience.

This book arrived clearly USED as the first page of puzzles was partially done
What's up Amazon....my birthday gift for my Mother in Law arrived with someone having done (in pencil thank goodness) the first page of the code word puzzle?????Other than clearly being used, it is a good book and the large format text really helps....but dissapointing!!!!

novice to medium level puzzles
Very good paper, but hints should be in the back of the book so that the hints can not be seen unless desired. With the hints covered, the puzzles are medium hard to medium + hard. There are no very hard puzzles in the book, but very hard puzzles would make the book unattractive to most puzzle solvers. I would recommend that before solving any puzzles, that the hints be covered (construction paper works fine). Then an enjoyable puzzle solving experience will be obtained.

Good if you don't want to work too hard
I am obsessed with codeword puzzles and loved having 200 of them in this book. Unfortunately, they were too easy. The words are all common ones and many words are repeated in multiple puzzles. There's very little challenge here. But, I do the puzzles to relax and these were definitely good for that. If you're new to codeword puzzles or simply don't want to think too hard, this book is for you.

Found occasional repeats
Found occasional repeats. Almost impossible to solve without referring to answers in back. Large squares and print.
