Tomee Dogbone Controller for Nintendo NES

Good, but could be better (overall QC)
I purchased two of these on accident. I am glad I did, because each one had a problem and being able to compare them side-by-side allowed me to not overreact to it.The first controller had great feeling buttons, but had an issue with the connecting cable. Inside the main cable of the controller are a group of wires, and that housing cable (the one you typically see, the big black one) was pulled out of the controller showing the individual wires and leaving them exposed and vulnerable to damage. The second controller had really lackluster button feel, but the cord cover was correctly in place. I decided to do a little controller surgery and see what I could find. I opened the one with the cord issue first and saw the layout, and then opened the other one to see how it compared. I could see immediately how the cable was routed and how it should have been held in place inside the controller, but had slipped out of place. This took a few seconds to fix, and then I looked at the buttons on each one. Most people who crack open controllers are used to larger one-piece rubber membranes which cover the button and provide the continuity through the tiny carbon pad to make the connection "go live". That is what makes the action on screen. These controllers instead have separate tiny silicone (I suppose) membranes for each button. I could see how they sat on the one with great button press, and how on the one with mushy buttons they were not sitting correctly. I popped the membrane out, turned it to the right orientation, and reassembled. Perfect.overall quality control might be a bit lax here, or I could have just received two with issues randomly. Even if I had to cannibalize two controllers to make one that was perfect, it would have been half the price of the official Nintendo dogbone controller and that would have been acceptable to me.

Good replica but IMPERFECT INSIDE....
I had an authentic dogbone controller with a fully intact shell, but a destroyed cord. Unlike the original NES controller, the Dogbone controller featured a modular cord which plugged into the PCB inside the controller, whereas the original was soldered on. I bought this hoping that I could either take the modular plug or far more likely take the entire PCB with soldered cord and transplant it into my authentic dogbone shell... NOPE.. Inside this thing is nothing like the authentic dogbone - the PCB will not fit inside an authentic shell... So I was stuck reselling this thing as is.. fortunately though it was an easy sell because there are lots of toploaders out there in need of dogbones!!

Eh
The controller itself is comfortable and the buttons feel sturdy and responsive BUT the cord is slightly shorter than the original NES controller (about 1 foot) and it doesn't feel like it's actually plugged into the system. It sits there very loosy goosy. It might fit better into the top loading NES but no so well in the old school NES system. If you plan on picking this up, pick up an NES cord extender as well.

feels like holding a snes controller
dont be fooled by the appearence of the box this isnt the original box or controller for the nes system there is a controller very similar to this made in the 1980s but this was made very recently. however for those who just want to play games on their old nintendo its works great has a much better feel than the oringinal controlers do and looks alot like the super nintendo controllers.

Avoid the Noid
It's functional, but barely. Do you like to go left and right, up and down, but never up AND to the left or down AND to the right? Then get this! Seriously a piece of shi*t. I've bought many retro controllers, used controllers, refurbished controllers, etc. etc. etc. but this is the worst. It doesn't look like a retro dogbone, it doesn't play like a retro dogbone. You have to press so hard on the d-pad to get any response. I'm embarrassed FOR whoever made this. I'd get my money back if I could. Where's a middle finger emoji when I need one....

Almost perfect
I must have got a good version of this. It works well for me. Very comfortable to hold and responsive buttons. Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the cable is short and the wire is thin, so it won't work with an extension cable. (That same cable works just fine with a standard NES controller.)

MUSHY "SUNKEN" D-PAD!
I liked the look of this "Dog-bone" controller for the NES and it's very lightweight. Although I've never owned the "Official" Nintendo version (so can't compare) I could not get used to how "mushy" the Directional Button felt. When depressed, it sunk way below the plastic body shell of controller and movements felt awkward and clumsy. I found it to be unusable as you lose confidence in it's ability to translate your inputs.

Good controller, mediocre plug
I like the controller, and it works well, but the plug doesn't fit as well as the native plug, it's a little lose and falls out easily. It should be easy to make it fit and stay in place a little better (using electric tape or something like that), but I wish it just stayed it place as it is.

Works as it should.
Excellent. Reminds me of my old dog bone controller when I bought a top loader when it first came out all those years ago.

Ótimo controle
Um controle excelente, uma ótima opção para quem precisa de um controle para reposição. Aspecto e tamanho idêntico ao original, D-Pad e botões precisos e de qualidade.
