The Definitive Roy Orbison Collection

Just as advertised
If you asked "Hey Phil, who's the greatest singer of all time?"My answer would be " You mean AFTER Roy Orbison?"So you can see I'm a fan. This book features easy melodies and a few unusual chords. But don't plan on playing along with Roy's recordings. The keys are different. But it's fun. Go for it.

great book
My dad just received this songbook and it is great!!The chords are correct! Everything is easy to read and play!!My dad has been playing the guitar for over 50 years, so he knows his music. The only review on here said that the book was not good, wrong chords, etc. My dad said that this book is wonderful and loves it!! I have to say that I believe my dad when he says this because he does play the guitar daily and is great at it!! He asked me to write a review on this book for him so others would know how good the book is and buy it!!Thank you Amazon!!

A very fine and comprehensive collection of Roy Orbison's popular hits
A very fine and comprehensive collection of Roy Orbison's popular hits, written in piano/vocal/guitar format (with chord symbols e.g. F#, Cm7, Gdim7, etc.). Includes intros and endings -- not just the main melody, as so many other song books give you. And the chord arrangements are genuine and beautiful. Sometimes these types of song books are "over-arranged" with more chords than you need; NOT THIS ONE.You will not be disappointed in purchasing this song book. You will be richly rewarded with some of the best-written music ever!

A great collection... very pleased
A great collection. I play the accordion (beginning to intermediate level). Surprisingly there are a lot more arrangements for piano than for accordion (go figure). I find myself buying collections like this... playing the melody line and using the base notations to give my left-hand something to do.This is truly a complete collection and easy to adapt for accordion.

Indexing bad and voicing typically bad
Granted I'm far from being an expert in guitar or other instruments, but I wonder why the chords Orbison played are seldom the ones in the book. For example, why that form of G7th all the time, when it just doesn't sound good? And why did they transpose down a whole step on "Crying"? Watch YouTube and you see he doesn't play those chords. And then there's the indexing issue. What is the organization? By date? Semi alphabetic? It's kind of hard to find a particular song in the book, if it's in there at all. It's a cool picture on the cover. And Hal Leonard's Complete Beatles (the white monster) is pretty good, but this book left some things to be desired, and included some things to be avoided.

It's Roy, what more can you say?
Needed music that had bass line to get gist of the bass part to gig with friends. It delivered. Nice to add to sheet music collection.

Wrong Keys
Warning .... Most of these songs ARE NOT in the key Roy recorded them in. So, if you are planning on using this songbook to learn the songs so you can play along with the records, you're out of luck. Also, most small bands learn their song list in the keys in which they were recorded. So .... If you are playing by yourself, the key doesn't matter. If you are playing to a Roy's recording, a backing track, or with a group, you will have to transpose these songs back to the original keys, in most cases. Although that gets easier with practice, it's a pain in the $%&.
