A HYBRID SPEAR KNIFE MADE WITH THE NEED TO THROW AND THROW
What a cool hybrid spear! I threw some javelin in college with some Olympians who really had a specific style for throwing amazing distances. I always thought of the javelin as a historic and ancient weapon that was part of a fighting style and main tool along with the shield and sword. There is a difference between throwing for distance and using the spear/javelin to fight and when thrown... it’s at different distances and angles and.... The Spartans, Romans, Zulu, Medieval Knights, Persians, Samurai and just about all of the iconic warriors from around the world and throughout earlier times, were the true practicers of the spear. Whether for hunting or fighting. All these amazing elements have always made me a dude who throws knives and tomahawks and FRISBEE’S!!! Seriously I have only had a couple of sessions of throwing this super well made item. The key to throwing spears for me has to do with releasing it with a spin (like throwing a spiral football). This allows strong direct vector and velocity for the other varied tipped spears from Cold Steel and other makers. This is basically a powerful serrated knife with a very long handle. I read some reviews that included concerns about the weight and relatively small diameter of the mil spec very strong and seemingly similar to grivory and other high end polymers that are an incredible evolution for so many different tools and products including this one. I wouldn’t be thinking about this as my go to defensive weapon when at my door in the middle of the night! It would certainly be a surprise for any creep. But for hunting and martial arts training... and especially for throwing at thick archery type targets with padding or tight hay. This is where I went. It’s really a tight and awesome thing to see and feel. This is a second segment of my archery practice that completes the long distance throwing and pulling releasing of arrows and now this spear and a few others. I started playing golf too late after playing football and baseball. My mind can’t accept anything but hitting baseballs at the batting cages or using my entire self at maximum strength during my too many years of football. The same with knife throwing or discus and.... when I used a pickax to remove trees at home. It wasn’t a style thing. In martial arts it’s both changing intensity and then using the power for defeating. I am writing a long review even for me... but I was trained for Texas warfare upon the fields of the 1970’s and 80’s. My world was constant weight lifting and martial arts mixed with combat fighting skills meant to be used upon the Rose Bowl field against some of the most incredible opponents possible. This spear brings all the years of my earlier life back into the war of football in those crazy days. The damage done to myself and so many friends and opponents were as harsh as the game was before the concussions and endless injuries took a terrible toll upon so many. But when something so powerful looking is also powerfully made; I now go out as a one some and play my favorite games of getting better at throwing this beautiful ‘golf club’ with strength and precision. I have many more sessions before I can say this about using this specific item. But it’s a lot of fun and a continuation of the skills that I have found and loved since forever. At this price; I may get a backup for my practice. In so many ways I recommend this totally.

Love it
The handle is solid, not hollow. Hardly any give when swinging this bad boy around. One of the reviews made me confused on this point, so FYI. This thing is heavy duty. It's a bit on the short side, but for a CQC scenario it would excel nonetheless. Super sharp out of the box. The sheath snaps together so it's not going to fly off when you're practicing with it on. The blade is thick and feels like it can take a beating. For stabbing and slashing it would work well. I'm not sure how much it will tolerate being thrown into wood, and I personally didn't get it for this purpose. For animal tissue it would have zero problems and hold up very well, I'm confident in saying. All in all, I'm very pleased I pulled the trigger on this somewhat impulse buy.

Pretty Durable Spear
My friend and I did some target practice with this throwing spear and it held up pretty well. Just needs to be sharpened.

It's usable and effective.
I don't like the minor bend the tip has, but I don't see it as a reason to return it. Haven't used it in any fashion, the sheath is thick rubber, I wouldn't recommend the sheath being the only barrier from skin as it's a very small strip that actually covers the blade edge.

This thing slaps
First of all I didn’t even know I needed a spear until Amazon was like “hey man check this out”. I love this thing. If a homeless man ever tries to break in again, yes again, I now have a way to protect myself and keep my distance from his dirty dirty fingernails. I bought this first then I bought a grappling hook because Amazon is a place to buy stuff. You don’t even know it exists until Amazon tells you and then you’re like. Heck yeah I need a modern spear. I can stab something from feet away, I can slash something with a knife on a stick. I can even hit something with the blunt end. I haven’t used it much but I like to think if Cocaine Bear was trying to jump in my ambulance I would then have the means to poke him from a distance. The only thing I would say it might need is a hole at the end to retrieve it if you threw it like Scorpion from Mortal Kombat. Right now you just gotta go get it if you throw it and you know you’re gonna miss a lot so there’s that.

Spear
Very sturdy well built feels great in the hand. Don’t regret purchasing it at all. Wish I payed more attention to the description, it was a little short for what I hand intended it for. If they build a longer one I would probably buy a bunch.

Nice to look at but blade is crooked and bolts were loose
I bought this spear just for fun. It looks really cool and comes with a nice safety cover for the blade. It feels good in the hand as well with a grip friendly shaft. Unfortunately, the blade is tilted to one side and one of the bolts is loose. I plan to see if I can find the right tool to let me adjust/tighten the bolts that hold the blade to the shaft in the hopes that I can get it straightened out and secure.
