Great for a crowded garage. I learned some tips about use and setup.
I used to use ceiling hooks, but every time I lifted my bike upside down to hang it, I worried I would drop it on my car. Kradl now makes it much easier to hang my bike, and it even fits nicely between all of the other hanging storage racks and shelving in my crowded garage. It takes a little bit of practice to get it all figured out, but now it's a breeze to use.I ended up calling their customer support for a couple of questions, and they were really helpful. I tried installing the metal arm piece that prevents the bike from rotating, but the screw head wasn't visible where it was supposed to be. We figured out that it rotated out of position during shipping, and then it was easy to sort it out so I could connect that docking arm piece. I also thought the main spool got jammed when I first unboxed it and tried to retract it by hand. It retracted a few feet and then it stopped. I was worried about pulling too hard, but they assured me the cable was much stronger than it looked (I think they said it's rated for over 200lbs). They said once I had my bike's weight hanging on it, everything would work properly. Sure enough, I mounted the unit, and attached my bike, and then it extended and retracted just fine.Since I ordered the 40lb unit for my 20-ish pound bike, I learned that I need to be a little more careful to raise the bike slowly so it doesn't trip the safety mechanism. After some practice, I figured out the speed that wouldn't engage that feature, so it would raise all the way without stopping. Also, the bungee cord that they include to keep your front wheel aligned isn't long enough to completely wrap around the wheel and frame of my mountain bike, but I just ended up hooking it to a spoke and then wrapping the other end around the frame tube, and that works too.I haven't really seen anything like this product before, so I can understand that there's a little bit of learning curve to use it. Their videos and phone support were both really helpful. It really is an elegant solution. I definitely recommend it.

Saves space and provides easy access in a crowded SF garage
We are a family of four, and live in a modest house in San Francisco, with a small garage used strictly for storage. We have 4 adult size bikes, which we clumsily lean against each other on the ground. Access is difficult as the bikes' pedals and handle bars tend to knife into the other bikes. We've tried many other bike storage systems, but the kradl is the only one that has made a real organizational dent. We have started with one kradl, which holds up one bike in the air and then the 3 other bikes are freer to maneuver with each other. Getting the bike on and off the kradl is quite easy and elegant; I angle and tug down.Installation was fairly easy once you find a good spot on the ceiling to screw into. Helpful to use a studfinder.Ideally, I would have a second kradl so that 2 bikes are stored up, and 2 below. My birthday is right around the corner...The kradl is great from the get-go, and then you appreciate it even more each time you get the bike down. You can feel the ingenious engineering behind it, all the physics. It's solidly built.I'll post some before and after pictures soon.

Excellent Product: Makes bike storage a breeze
The ever-present conundrum of bike storage - you want your bike in an easy to access location when you want to ride, but don't want the bike in the way when not in use. For those with limited space, solving for this problem is even more critical, as most usable space has already been allocated to some other purpose. Kradl offers an elegant, easy to use product in a compact package that solves this dilemma. Kradl mounts to the ceiling with two lag bolts. The spring-driven mechanism is easy to set up and does not require any external power source, or batteries to operate. Once in place, Kradl allows you to store your bike in an out of the way location but also allows for easy access when you want to ride.I'd definitely recommend it. Getting Kradl mounted is the most challenging aspect of installation, as you need to find supporting beams, joists or studs in order to ensure proper function. This shouldn't be an issue if you have some basic handy person skills though.

Excellent Solution to Save Space and Time
I don't have a lot of room to store stuff and I wouldn't think of keeping my bike outside. I looked through other storage solutions. Pulleys just seemed cumbersome and complicated. I don't like the idea of mounting my bike on a wall, so hooks were out. Then I came across Kradl and decided to give it a go. So glad a I did! It's a perfect space-saver. Easy to mount and easy to use. Plus, I don't have to feel like I'm working on a sail boat every time I need to access my bike! I recommend watching one of their videos the first time you attach and lift the bike. After that, it's pretty straightforward :)

Amazing and innovative product
I purchased this product hoping for an easy way to store a bike in an already crowded garage. I was tired of having to maneuver my car in and out of the garage without hitting my bikes or being unable to open the car door because of bike handles and pedals. I came across the Kradl which provided an innovative solution that does not require electricity. When the Kradl arrived I was very impressed by the sleek packaging and how small the unit is. The instructions were easy to follow and the installation was simple. Kradl included a template to assist in making sure the placement of the screws lined up with the screw holes in the product.Once installed, I attached my bike and was amazed how easily it lifted the bike. The bike came down just as smoothly as it went up. This is a great product that I look forward to using for years.

Space saver
Only giving 4 stars because I just installed 2 of these and haven't used them much. Great space saver. Freed up critical floor space in garage. Have worked very well so far. Read and follow installation directions carefully--this is critically important. works well on my high (10' 10") ceiling. Have hung an 18lb road bike and a 33lb mountain bike.
