It purges very well and clears the screen.
It works!. I first tried several of the ISpring WSP-100 Spin Down filters. None of them would clean the screen when you would purge it. It did clean some, but it wasn't very thorough. I had to remove the screen to fully clean it. I would lose water pressure to my house within hours to the point the water flow stopped. I think the issue is that the purge outlet is very small so it doesn't flush well. Although built well, the WSP-100 lacks for what it is supposed to do. I tried both the 50 and 100 micron screen. Neight flushed properly. This Rusco works very well. It flushes very thoroughly when purged. You can actually see the water cycle when flushing it. It also has more room with the extra long trap. I don't like it being all plastic, but it seems to be a good quality plastic. Make sure you read the directions about installing the flush valve. It does not have to be tight, just screwed in enough to leave a few threads showing. Also, make sure you match up the arrows for the correct flow.I also will be adding an automatic flush system using a garden hose timer. I can set this to auto flush and specific times.

Reduced cost, reduced waste and reduced effort.
Paid for itself quickly. Before I installed this filter I was hit by a large amount of unexpected sediment in my well water that was causing the whole house filter I had to fill in less then 2 weeks. I went to > 8 weeks after I installed this filter. It's amazingly effective at capturing the larger deposits in the water without using a filter element and flushing it is a dream come true.Installation is doable for a DIYer comfortable with basic plumbing. Someone did some plumbing work in my house that assumed no more modifications would ever be needed so I had to get creative. Due to tight space I installed a 90 degree hose elbow to the flush valve. It made flushing much easier and I'm not worried about ruining the PVC threads connecting/disconnecting a hose. Just be careful not to muck up the threads the first time.Camco 90 Degree Hose Elbow- Eliminates Stress and Strain On RV Water Intake Hose Fittings, Solid Brass (22505)

it works, for bigger particles, not a fine filter,
I live on an island and no water treatment, so we just get whatever comes down the lines, some dirt, and biological growth, the water has no treatment at all, it is easy to open the valve on the bottom and flush out the dirt, but eventually gets clogged enough that I have to take it apart and thoroughly clean it, over all I am happy with it, it is just what I needed.

An excellent Sediment Trapper and Spin Down Filter
At last we have found a really well thought-out filter, after already having 4 'normal' spindown filters in use.Our spring water is extremely sediment-rich and doesn't have much water pressure. We flush the filter every 2 hours for 1 minute with the 5 bar house water pipe so that the filter element does not get dirty and the dirt remains in the large collection container. We then empty this once a week.If the filter were downstream of the water pump, we could do without cleaning, but in this case that is not possible as we pump the spring water into our domestic water tank and, above all, we want the water pump to work dirt-free.

Does its job well on my home well system
Using this as the first stage of filtration on my well. This replaced an ispring spin-down device that was not performing well. Replacing with this rusco model restored my water pressure. This unit appears to flow significantly better than the ispring with minimal pressure drop. The sediment trapper works as expected. I see some sediment settling to the bottom and I simply flush it out every few weeks. Very happy with this purchase. Important to note that I did not use the polyester screen. I replaced it with a stainless steel screen and saving the polyester as a backup.

Be careful attaching the valve!!!
I installed this filter over 10 years ago in front of a Big Blue whole house filter to catch the coarse stuff and extend the life of the expensive Pentek chloramine filter in the Big Blue. It’s worked great except for the valve at the bottom leaking. This is the third unit I’ve bought over the years because they always leak, and if you take the valve off to try wrapping again with Teflon tape, it just gets worse. Well this time I did some research and found that plastic threads can be tricky to wrap properly and avoid cracking the housing. The solution for me this time was to use pipe sealant INSTEAD of tape. I also paid heed to the warning in the instructions to not over tighten it (just 1 turn more than finger tight). With the tape, it never felt tight enough until it was too late and the housing was damaged. But with the sealant it actually felt a lot tighter much sooner and appeared to make a good tight water proof seal. With that discovery I’m now very happy with this product!

Seems very sturdy, does a great job of removing sediment and grit from well water
I did a LOT of research before purchasing this. I looked at filters of all types, and I settled on this for a few reasons.1) I didn't want to shell out big bucks on replacement filters. With any other kind of water filter, you are stuck forever paying for expensive replacement filters, and it's bad for the environment anyway to fill the landfill with them.2) This is easy to service - easier than even replacing a filter. Just put a bucket below the purge valve, and it's clean in just a second. No sweat. I've done it a few times, and the sediment comes right off. Pretty slick.3) Installation was a breeze. The 1" model is PVC Slip X Slip . So, just standard solder joint.4) most importantly, it works. I got the #100 screen, and fortunately that seems to be good enough to remove the bulk of sediment. I was hoping not to have to put a higher # of screen on it - as that will restrict flow a bit - and with well water, pressure isn't that high anyway. Note that - you can purchase any filter and interchange later on if what you got wasn't good enough.5) Made in the U.S.A.I'll update later if there is anything interesting to comment on, but I am not sure I'll come up with much more interesting. Great product at a reasonable price.
