works great for CDs and DVDs I had a lot of backup disks left after I retired. I wanted to downsize and needed to get rid of a large quantity is a short period of time.. This worked great for both paper covers and disks.

This shredder is the perfect size for home use, or a small office. Say goodbye to those expired credit cards, credit card offers, junk mail and old burned CDs you may have laying around with personal information.The XC2 cuts paper in a cross-cut pattern, which makes it look like confetti by cutting both horizontally and vertically. This is a more secure and effective method of destroying personal information.As you can see in my video, besides sheets of paper, the XC2 takes on DVD/CDs and credit cards without hesitations. I really like that it has a separate bin for the DVD/CD cutter since those can be very sharp and hazardous to handle. I can just take the bin and toss them in an small box or paper bag to discard of them instead of handling them with my hands or putting them in a plastic bag where they always poke through.You can set the shredder to function automatically except for the DVD/CD feature, that has to always be done manually.The view window on the bin is a nice bonus to see when the bin is full. There is a overheating and overload protection feature that will terminate power of the shredder if a paper jam causes an overload or the unit is overheated due to prolong use. If this happens you need to let the shredder sit for 20-30 minutes in the off position to allow the thermal motor to reset.Comes with one-year limited warranty.Review Sample.

The media could not be loaded.  This is a very light duty shredder. Yes, it can slice, not shred, a DVD/CD into several pieces, but it does not completely reduce it to shreds like a good crosscut shredder would. Therefore if your DVD or CD had serial numbers on the label or other written information that you would not want anyone to be able to see, this shredder will not be a good choice for you. A DVD or CD is merely sliced into 4 equal width pieces.As for its paper shredding abilities it sounds like it is going to pop a gasket when shredding 8 sheets of paper... it's rated capacity. It's noisy, very noisy. It strained and groaned and sounded like it was not going to be able to get through just 8 sheets... and they weren't even full length sheets of paper because I cut them in half for my demonstration.The slot where you insert the paper is barely wider than the width of 8.5x11 paper. Your paper needs to be aligned nearly perfectly or it won't feed into the slot. No real margin for error there. Even 8 sheets caused this shredder to groan. Definitely not a heavy-duty shredder. In fact, the duty cycle calls for 2 minutes maximum of shredding followed by a 30 minute rest. Not a shredder you'd want to use in a busy office,Since the heavy motor sits on top of a very lightweight plastic collection bin, it is prone to tipping over if bumped. On a positive note, the DVD/CD pieces are collected in a seperate small container that sits within the larger bin thus keeping the plastics pieces out of the paper shreds.This is not a shredder that I could recommend except for occasional use. It's just OK for infrequent, light duty use. Your documents are not irretrievably shredded, just cut up. DVD/CD's are not shredded, only sliced into 4 pieces. Anything sensitive that might have been written on the labels will be easlily retreivable if the pieces get into the wrong hands. And it tips easily if bumped because it is top heavy.Not a great shredder.A far better shredder that I've also reviewed is the Comet CM-M10CD 10-SHEET JAMSTOP MICRO CUT PAPER SHREDDER (Silent Motor, 4.2 Gallon, Shreds Credit Card/CDs). It is much quieter, has much greater capacity, easily shreds 10 pages at a time and chomps through CD/DVD's easily. It does not have a separate collection bin for the plastic however. But it complete pulverizes the CD/DVD's into tiny pieces.I was provided a free sample for evaluation.

The shredder came well packaged. Placed in an attractive blue box, the shredder blade portion was well packaged and easy to remove from the package itself. The shredder box and the DVD/CD receptacle were separate and easy to remove. A very informative User Manual was enclosed, along with the Aleratec Registration form and envelope. A shredder lubricant sheet was enclosed, you feed this sheet directly into the shredder. Easy set up, plug the shredder into an outlet. Place the side switch to Auto position, a green LED light comes on and then start shredding. I had 4 advertising pieces of mail in an unopened envelope. Each piece was probably equivalent to four pieces of paper. Went in like a breeze. I don't find the noise at all loud. I do not have any CD's or DVD's to shred at this time.I found this an extremely easy shredder to put together, the users manual was helpful and concise, and most importantly the shredder works very well.
