A big man for a big job
Clint Walker first impressed himself on viewers as Cheyenne Bodie in 1955, played the role for seven seasons, made several movies, and then in 1971 did this one, which feels like a failed pilot. He pays U. S. Marshal Dave Harmon, who is sent to Yuma, Arizona, a venue that's notably tough on lawmen. He clashes almost immediately with two roistering brothers, Sam (Bruce Glover) and Rol (Neil "Bing" Russell) King, is forced to kill the first and jails the second, meets struggling freight operator "Mules" McNeil (Edgar Buchanan), puts up at a hotel owned by Julie Williams (Kathryn Hays), catches a young Mexican boy named Andres (Miguel Alejandro) going through his baggage and hires him at $3 a week to keep the jail swept out and the stove supplied, and learns that a lot of the trouble currently going on in town may be traceable to Nels Decker (Barry Sullivan), who, when he first came to town, "brought everything he owned in one wagon. Now he owns 50 of them." Then someone lets Rol King out of the jail--and shoots him in the back as he goes to get his horse. Harmon is now faced with the certain vengeance of the eldest King brother, powerful cattleman Arch (Morgan Woodward), as well as an Apache chief (Rudy Diaz) who claims his people aren't getting the food and cattle promised to them--both of whom give him just one day to mend the situation--and a dead Cavalry officer (John Kerr) who may have been lining his own pockets under the table. It's a tough order, and Harmon has no one on his side but Andres and Julie.Filmed in Old Tombstone and therefore full of the dust and hammering sun we associate with southern Arizona, this is a good suspenseful Western with an interesting cast (Peter Mark Richman is especially good as the cynically realistic Major of Cavalry commanding the nearby fort). Walker's Harmon is not unlike Cheyenne in many ways and would probably have been equally as successful if the concept had been picked up; it would have been interesting to see what the writers might have made of the murder (by raiders "in Union uniforms") of his wife and son.

Skips and bad quality
This is obviously a VHS. Would still be acceptable except the DVD skips and it also cut off the last 10 minutes. We could figure out the ending but would be better to be able to watch it.The story was good.

Lint Walker is the Lawman!
There was a lot of suspense in this movie. We truly appreciated how he treated a young boy who was "off to a bad start in life" but Clint was able to "turn him around" for good. Great movie! Great Western!

Clint Walker is a hit in Yuma.
Clint Walker is very good in this post-Cheyenne western. It appears to be a made-for-TV movie but that doesn't detract from the story. If it had been released theatrically it would have been rated PG. Very little profanity, no sex, and really not too much violence. All of Mr. Walker's fans ( I'm one of them) will enjoy this one. Probably most fans of westerns will too. Fit for all ages. One extra detail: the picture doesn't seem to be very clear on some shots from a distance. On close-ups the picture is fine. I don't know why this is the case. It didn't detract from my viewing pleasure and hopefully it won't bother other viewers.

Yuma..Decent western
Clint Walker is a lawmen...plays the part great...lots of other good actors and directed by ted post...a decent western to kill time...the storey is set in the wild and lawless Yuma Territory of the 1800's United States Marshal Dave Harmon(Walker) is appointed by the Govenor to bring order to the territory, known for running off any lawman who dares to bring the rowdies to heel. Upon his arrival in Yuma,he is immediately tested, becoming embroiled in a struggle with the powerful Arch King(Woodward) after shooting King's brother. It will take all of Marshal Harmon's grit and determination to stop the violence and bring justice to Yuma...Dvd quality is more like a vhs tape, not dvd but not bad,no extras, full screen...this review is for the dvd as shown...Timeless Media Group..love to know what the other copy's of Yuma are like, people should name the manufacture of the dvd they are reviewing.

Yuma
I am a huge Clint Walker fan and I am in the process of building up all the movies that he made along with my John Wayne and other classic western collections. I had never even heard of this movie until I saw it on Amazon and it had very good reviews. I ordered it and was very pleased. I was tying to locate "Yellowstone Kelly" and "Night of the Grizly" but they are NOT to be found. I just recorded "Yellowstone Kelly" the other night from the Encore Western Channel onto my DVR to record onto my DVD recorder, so one more left. But, if you are a Clint Walker fan, as I have been since I was a kid" then you will like this one too!!!! Nick Donvito.

Excellent Western that Challenges you to Think.
This is A clever western that is way beyond the usual Cliched style, particularly because it was made for TV under the ABC Movie Of The Week banner. The story is deeper and there are no clear cut good and bad guys.It does fall into Stereotype at brief moments but Definitely worth your time.

Love this western
Love this TV western, always been a Clint Walker fan, however film is not too great, tends to shimmer a lot, possibly bad transfer but still watchable. (Another western with Kurt Russell's father BING RUSSELL).

YUMA (1970)
United States Marshal Dave Harmon (Clint Walker) is appointed by the governor to bring order to the territory, known for running off any lawman who dares to bring the rowdies to heel. Upon his arrival in Yuma, he shoots one of the King brothers. The other brother is put in jail. Harmon checks into the Yuma Hotel and intends to stay. Then 2 men release the other brother from jail and shoot him in his back in the middle of the street.Harmon goes after them, as one of the men is Capt white from the army. Harmon runs into the Indians, who don't seem to get the beef, they were promised according to the treaty. Older brother Arche King is told , his younger brothers are dead and the Marshal killed them. Trader Decker gets these cattle and sells them for profit. Then Capt White is found dead. Harmon takes the body to jail. The major of the army and Arche King will only wait for one day for the Marshal to solve the murders. The movie has been retrieved from national archieve, hence some loss of clarity, colour and sound quality.Clint Walker acts well as the big Marshal and the director Ted Post keeps the story interesting. Will Marshal Harmon get Decker? Who is the real Master behind all the murders? Will Arche King wait? Will the Indians help Harmon? Will the army trust Harmon?Watch and ENJOY. (ENGLAND. UK)
