I collect chess sets and a Civil War buff also so I have been looking for a Civil War chess set for some time.This chess set is outstanding very well detailed and painted. The reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because the board is glass and the green squares are so light in color that you can hardly see them. I would have preferred a vinyl or folding hard board one. The other reason is the chess fingers could stand a little more weight. But that is all right I bought it for display only anyways.

This is a great Civil War chess set with Abe Lincoln, holding his stovepipe hat , as the King chess piece for the North and Jefferson Davis holding a scroll and wearing a goatee as the king piece for the south. The queen pieces are very attractive with each wrapped in their respective flags for the north and south. The pawns are portrayed as front line infantrymen with muskets. Rooks are mounted cannons and knights are cavalrymen on horseback with the horses on their hind legs. Bishops are senior officers on both sides. The chess pieces themselves have a good weight and heft and hold steady on the board. I have a tournament chess board and these pieces fit very well on them. The glass board the set comes with is average. The pieces are painted nicely and are not gaudy. I am impressed with this set and highly recommend.
