An effective romantic horror film set in a beautiful location
There's a problem with the story that you either can look past or not. It's a pretty big problem. If you can maintain the suspension of disbelief, I think this movie pays off. It's paced slowly but not too slow, and it is well-acted. The script is pretty good considering all the cliches and nonsense the genre tends to find inescapable. In a rare turn for a horror movie, the male protagonist is believable, credible, likeable. He doesn't say or do inexplicable things to move the plot forward. The side characters are two-dimensional and a bit stiff, but they don't interfere with the story of the two main characters. One thing surprising about it -- the characters play with the tension between "natural but unexplained" and "supernatural" without descending to the point where one of the characters has to take a stand for or against religion or science. Usually, when a main character says something about believing science can explain everything, it telegraphs a tedious cliche where either the other character has to challenge them on it, or where the science-believing character has to have a religious moment. This movie doesn't do that, and I respect it a lot for it. The movie is aware of that tension but doesn't attempt to resolve it.Aside from the gigantic plot hole, it's more than just "good, for a horror movie". I enjoyed it a lot.

Absolutely superb horror/romance, not a romantic comedy, but ROMANCE
Wow, this was a superb movie. I expected one thing – a Lovecraftian horror film, mixing in an American abroad coming across ancient cosmic horrors sort of trope like in _An American Werewolf in London_ or _Afflicted_ – and didn’t know I was, sorry if this is a spoiler, getting a really great romance movie that I got heavily invested in, with a wonderful climax that had nothing to do with death and destruction…ok, it did, but not how I expected to, for it also involved romantic love, Love and Romance starting with capital letters, something Shakespearian. This was a beautiful film, with gorgeous Italian countryside, light touches of humor, deft character development of minor characters, and two very compelling leads who I grew to care a lot about. This was excellent, one of the best films I have seen in a while, a rare film that will appeal to horror fans and to romance fans (maybe romantic comedy fans too, but this wasn’t a romantic comedy but really a true romance). The movie at first focuses on a young man named Evan (played very well by Lou Taylor Pucci, who shows layers to his character as the movie progresses). Losing his mom to cancer very early on in the film, getting in a bar fight that may land him jail time (and does cost him his job), and having put his life on hold to care for his ailing mother, he very impulsively goes to Italy. At first spending time with two fun blokes from the UK eating, drinking, and smoking their way across Italy, he soon breaks off from the two when he becomes interested in a local girl in an Italian seaside town, a woman named Louise (played by Nadia Hilker, absolutely perfect in the role). She seems flirtatious, Evan wants to more formally date, and the two hit it off in a whirlwind romance.Only Louise is hiding a dark secret, things she doesn’t want Evan to see, how her body doesn’t always stay human, she has to take injections without him seeing…I can’t say much more than that, but you have a horror mystery (and body horror) while also getting a wonderful, rapturous romance (and ultimately, weirdly, one supports the other). It’s strange but it really works.A lot of the film was subtle, with some high-quality cinematography, camera angles, just slightly underplayed at times in a way that really worked without being languorously slow. The world felt real, with care and attention to detail to the minor characters, the two Evan spends time with in the first 23 minutes of the film, a farmer Evan stays with, fully realized characters with a wit and charm about them. The film sinks or swims though on whether we buy the acting and dialogue of the two main characters and their chemistry together and I absolutely bought it. They are the heart and soul of the film, an intertwining set of plots, one the romantic one, the other what deep, dark, horrifying secret Louise is hiding from Evan. A really great film.

Interesting ideas about romance and horror... but
First of all, this works pretty well as a love story. I think the leads are realistic and believable; not overdone or overacted. The horror bit was less fully realized, I felt. It would have been much more interesting to show some of her past so we had some reference for what she lived through, and who she hunted. The process that made her who she was was very vague, and I'm not sure it was fully thought through from a science perspective. But it's not a bad movie, and they really leveraged the budget. Most of the characters had enough dimension to keep it interesting, and it doesn't look "cheap". Worth a watch.

Well done; unique. The story, dialogue, acting... it's really beautiful. Lovely.

A future cult classic
Don't dwell on or be put off by the fact this is an indie film that falls into the horror genre - something that would normally put me off instantly. This film is greater than the sum of its parts and will probably become a cult classic one day. It has a good cast and great performances from the two lead actors who are instantly likeable and believable as the star crossed lovers. The dialogue is intelligent, and the film is carried along effortlessly by great direction and tight camerawork, both of which quite frankly put many big budget films to shame. It never lingers on the horror scenes and doesn't resort to cheap scare tactics, which sets it apart from pretty much every horror film I've seen over the past 5 years. At times you forget you're watching a low budget film. Above all, this is an essay in good film-making.

Fab film its a must see for any whos into this genre.
What a fab and wonderfully strange and different film. Before sunrise mets OMG what am i watching This film leans towards Lucy with the genetics and evolution, with a myth or two thrown in for good measure ,its a lovely story and a romance film at heart BUT ON STEROIDS...Ive started using the Amazon reviews for watching films and ive yet to be disappointed watch this film you wont regret. for a non blockbuster movie WHICH IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN the acting is superb and the actors perfect, check it out i highly recommend the obsorbing time you will not regret using on it.If i had a regret it was, that the parts with the English tourist being loud and vulger abroad and it being a true repressention of todays times ,being a English man its uncomfortable to watch even though its only a film. Nevertheless 5stars.

No subtitles
As someone who is hard of hearing, anything without subtitles is useless, even wearing my hearing aid. I always assume a DVD will have them, but not in this case. I can sometimes follow to some extent, but this soundtrack does not seem particularly helpful. Luckily, the DVD was not very expensive.

Engaging and Original
Very-well acted and directed; highly original and thoughtful, excellent script, all-round excellence. Excellent SPFX as well and very good use of locations. An instant classic. Boy does NOT meet a girl.
