Rackstuds Rack Mounting System, 100-pack

Busted knuckles and banged up fingers are a thing of the past with these. Cage nuts are definitely from the stone age compared to these. I'll NEVER use another cage nut. Rackstuds for life! Makes mounting rack equipment MUCH easier and less painful.

These are so awesome - these should be standard on any racks. So much easier to deal with than any cage nuts or anything like that. And they feel very solid. Makes racking equipment so much easier than trying to hold up a switch and getting the screw in. Really a must have!

I've used these to install Cisco gear from customers, including UCS servers, switches, etc. They work great. I'll continue to buy them for all installs.

Works just like in the video -- well maybe just slightly harder to clip in and push in the yellow locking washer. I still used my key or a screwdriver to push them in just because it was easier. It didn't work on my Tripp Lite sliding shelves because the back of the clip hit the rails of the shelf. The rails were clearly designed for a cage nut and no fixed bolt. It also didn't work with a sliding rail that had three holes with the middle hole designated as a locking hole for the server. Obviously the posts sticking out would get in the way of the server sliding all the way in and since the middle hole on the server had a bolt, it would require a cage nut on the receiving end so these wouldn't work. However, I gave this five stars because the studs themselves didn't have an issue. It was simply not the right part for those sliding shelves and rails.

These clips are tough! Tough to put on, tough to take off but tough in terms of durability. I've broken three of these trying to remove and readjust equipment on my rack. Once in place they are great if you need to remove and put back rack mounted equipment.

These Rack Studs are great for fast simple deployment.They snap in very easy and stay on and removing them is as easy as installing them, just snap them out and you are done.

Excellent product. Will save hours and sore fingers when outfitting a rack. If you are over 18, they are better than sex!

Rackstuds sind eines dieser Produkte, die kaum einer kennt, obwohl sie eigentlich Grundwissen sein sollten.Ich montiere privat regelmäßig (und gelegentlich beruflich) Server, Switches und andere 19"-Gerätschaften in Racks. Klassischerweise benutzt man bei quadratischen Montagelöchern sogen. "cage nuts" - ein quadratisches Metallstück, das man in das Loch einsetzt (besser gesagt: reinquetscht mit hinreichend hoher Verletzungsgefahr für die Finger) und in das man dann die Schrauben eindreht.Große Nachteile: neben der Verletzungsgefahr rutschen die cage nuts unter Belastung gerne mal wieder heraus - im Betrieb eher selten, aber während der Montage können entsprechend hohe Kräfte auftreten. Wem schon mal beim Einsetzen einer 30-Kilo-USV diese auf die Schienen gefallen ist, der weiß wovon ich rede.Rackstuds umgehen diese Probleme mit einigen cleveren Tricks. Zunächst setzt man das rote Halterungsteil ein. Das geht meistens glatt (zugegeben, auch da muß man manchmal etwas wuchten, auch beim Herausholen kann es mal klemmen wie bei den cage nuts, aber vielleicht einmal unter 30 Fällen) - in etwa 45° Winkel einsetzen und dann (am besten von hinten) schwenken, sitzt.Als nächstes kommt die gelbe Sicherung drauf, die dafür sorgt, daß die rote Halterung sich nicht aus dem Loch lösen kann (lösen funktioniert nämlich durch Eindrücken einer Federung plus Umkehrung der o.a. Drehung, die Sicherung blockiert diese "Feder"). Dann setzt man das Gerät auf die Halterungen und sichert es durch Festdrehen der schwarzen Schrauben.Das wirkt auf Anhieb erst mal seltsam - alles aus Plastik, und das soll schwere Server halten? Tut es! Soweit ich weiß, sind die Teile bei 4-Post-Montage bis mindestens 80 kg freigegeben; ich hatte bisher nur Geräte bis 65 kg (gut befüllter Dell R920) im Einsatz - keine Probleme. Flache schwere Geräte mit 2-Post-Montage - auch kein Ding.Ausbau geht genau umgekehrt wie der Einbau - auch hier keine Schwierigkeiten.Besonders beim Aufbau meines Homelabs habe ich klassische cage nuts oft verflucht und Rackstuds stets gepriesen. So schnell und stressfrei habe ich noch nie Geräte montiert.Gibt es auch Kritik? Klar. Erstens, wie schon erwähnt, kann gelegentlich auch ein Rackstud mal so fest sitzen, daß man sich beim Rausholen die Finger weh tut. Aber sehr selten. Zweitens sind die Rackstuds wegen des recht großen Durchmessers der roten "Pömpel" nicht für alle Zwecke geeignet. Typische Schwerlastschienen (APC USV, Fujitsu Tape Library) haben einen kleineren Lochdurchmesser und passen nicht. Was schade ist, denn gerade die sind echt nervig zu montieren.Es gibt zwar noch eine blaue Variante, die hat aber nur eine andere Größe bzgl. der Löcher im Rack.In der Summe bin ich aber hochzufrieden, echte Alternativen gibt es ohnehin nicht, und auch den etwas hohen Preis sind sie wert (ich habe jeweils um die 40 EUR für einen 100er-Pack bezahlt, daher kann es sich lohnen zu warten, wenn sie gerade mal wieder über 100 kosten) - wobei letzterer im gewerblichen Bereich weniger eine Rolle spielt und sich außerdem durch die höhere Arbeitsgeschwindigkeit sowieso schnell refinanziert hat.

This is a great design and I've been waiting for what feels like ages to be able to get hold of them in the UK.Getting any heavy equipment in place, or even light equipment when space is tight, with standard cage nuts is a real pain. Having a stud to hang the equipment while you get it locked off is a real time-saver and great for frustration avoidance!The cost is similar to cage nuts in the mid to high price range. For the time and frustration saved (not forgetting the saved chunks of skin you would normally expect to lose), that is a price worth paying.I mainly use this on audio equipment and network equipment.The advice supplied is not to use Rack Studs on items that will be moved around lots (such as hire equipment or a touring rig). I'm trying a compromise where Rack Studs take the top holes so I can hang kit while fitting it, but the bottom holes, which naturally pull away from the mounting rail, have standard caged nuts. The Rack Studs still are subjected to some vibration but with the standard bolts and caged nuts done up tight, there's barely any room for movement between the mating faces. Also, after seeing the company's demonstration video of the truck vibration test, I started laying all my racks on their back and with rails parallel to the direction of travel even if they are fitted with caged nuts throughout. This equipment is not out on the road every day so my experiment is certainly not as tough a test as others will need. If I remember, I'll update this review in a few months.

I received the bag on Tuesday buy Friday I've already used them all and will be reordering many more bags. The products work as ascribed I make it very easy to install any rock equipment.

They are simply awesome! Not sure I'd truss a heavy full length server with them, but for network gear and blanks they are brilliant.
