This is prefilter. This goes before any equipment on the main line. I have this on my main and the scale inhibitor for my tankless water heater. I get little to no scale build up. I also have a water softener. Any more ?s, just ask.

Q: when we change this filter

Depends on your water usage and how dirty your water is. I would say no less than once a year of fairly clean water.

Q: What are the 2 attachments on the side that you connect the hoses to?

Could be 1, 3/4 or 1/2 inch depends on which one you buy.
