Ghoul

I really enjoyed it. Very entertaining from beginning to end
Everything is good about this movie. Good cast, good scares, creepy, great work on the history and use of that specific history. However, when watching, you can't help but scream at the characters. They do ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING WRONG in a horror movie and you find yourself dumbfounded at their ignorance. ESPECIALLY when ghosts and demons are in the movie. I love these movies and since I'm disabled, I watch a ton of movies about the other side. NEVER EVER USE A OUIJA BOARD!!!! NO SEANCES!!! You're just inviting evil into your life. Trust me on this, please! There's a reason I'm disabled!!!! Enjoy this movie, but heed my warning ⚠️

The Real History Behind This Movie? More Terrifying than the Film Itself.
As a horror fan and true crime/history buff, I rented this movie only because I'm familiar with the 1932-1933 Holodomor (the forced starvation of the Ukrainian people by Stalin's regime) as well as serial murderer Andrei Chikatilo, aka the Rostov Ripper. Both the Stalinist Famine and Chikatilo were worked into the storyline. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough original or interesting horror going on here to keep my attention. For all its sense of historical purpose, "Ghoul" is ultimately a paint-by-numbers found-footage horror movie. Jump scares? Check. Camera blackouts? Check. Creepy psychic and double-crossing local(s)? Check. "The demon won't let us leave the house" as a plot device? Check. I gave up on the movie 20 minutes before it ended. My advice is to skip "Ghoul" altogether and just do some cursory research on Chikatilo or the Holodomor if you want to have the wits scared out of you. Now, if you're into FF horror, you might like this. My opinion? An interesting premise marred by a flawed execution. If you've seen one "found footage" film, you've pretty much seen "Ghoul."

because "Ghoul" could have been a very good movie, with an original story
"Ghoul" had the potential to be a really creepy movie. The story behind the movie gave the film makers and advantage, in that Andrei Chikatilo was probably one of the most horrifying figures of this planets history. They could have used him in this story several different ways, but chose to come from the "supernatural" angle. That is where they failed this movie. The true story behind the Holodomar, and Chikatilo himself, is terrifying as is, but they took away from that aspect by bringing in the whole "summoning demons" junk. It's a shame, because "Ghoul" could have been a very good movie, with an original story. But they went the route that so many other horror films have went. I really wish the director could have been confident enough to know that they did not need that angle. The acting is pretty bad. The only character who seemed interesting was Boris, but they only gave him a very small part. The setting and environment was good. But the story line was garbage. I was really hoping that this movie would be good, despite all of the negative reviews. I have done alot of research on serial killers, and The Rostov Ripper is always the first one that comes to my mind when the topic is brought up. If you have never heard of Chikatilo, watching this movie will not paint the correct picture of him. He was a truly horrifying man, but this movie makes him seem more like a villian in a scary movie, then the person he truly was.I would tell you not to waste your money on this movie, but you won't listen. So my best advice: Don't take this movie for anything more then a silly, fictional attempt at scaring teens at a sleep over

its scary
This is actually a pretty scary movie. Yeah we've seen all the plot devices before....but realistically how long has it been since there's been a truly original horror flick. This has a few historical elements throw in to flesh out a plot but basically its a demonic slasher pic that's done with style and a few unexpected twists. I watch a lot of scary movies and 90% of them I turn off because they suck. I watched this one till the end and it freaked me out a little. kudos

More here than meets the eye
I truly have to disagree with the other reviews here. it seems that when the 'found footage' oeuvre began, anybody and everybody compares movies to the Blair Witch debacle. I have to say that Ghoul was indeed a departure as we see the culmination of the time spent as opposed to scrambling websites and asking friends what it was we just witnessed. This film had some valleys but it was far outweighed by its peaks and for the impressive amount of tension, cinematography and scares included. I will state that the lead could have toned down the valley girl shtick, but the lion's share of this movie is well worth a viewing and surprisingly satisfying. All in all, time spent well.

Oh good, they all suffer and die.
I hate millennials' but I like this movie because as I said in the title of this review they all die. It gets four stars from me because yes the cast did their jobs but it was also a slow burner. I would like to watch this movie again sometime.

Really good FF movie
If you like found footage movies this is a good one in my opinion, I really liked it. I laugh at some of these comments that critique this movie like it is a major motion picture that is being nominated for an oscar and they are a top film critic. Like i said if you like FF, this is worth watching.

Scared the hell out of me
Judging from the bad reviews, this might be an unpopular opinion. I actually enjoyed this movie, it was creepy and atmospheric. The acting was pretty good and the plot moved around a little. The shaky cam was the only downfall. Not great but certainly not horrible.

Found Footage Nummer 2052 (oder so ähnlich)
Wieder einmal ein Found Footage – Film der eher schlechteren Sorte.Darsteller: Sind OK.

Gute Ideen verenden in hysterischer Gruppendynamik. Und hört endlich auf, die armen Haustiere zu töten. Das ist so Achtziger und war noch nie kreativ! Fazit: Hätte mehr werden können, aber viel wackliges Brülltheater.
