All of them sprouted and I followed directions for planting and then all died. 100% fail rate.

Time will tell
Time will tell. Most (if not all) of the rhizomes are obviously viable because they began to sprout in the bag while I procrastinated planting them.Six of the 10 leafed out. I planted them in 3 locations, 2 groups of 3 under pines & mixed hardwoods and a group of 4 at the boundary of woods & lawn. The latter 4 received automated irrigation & 3 are still alive. The others got rain+occasional watering. Three of those 6 made leaves but didn't live past early Summer. Goldenseal doesn't seem to be, at least from my experience, a plant&forget species in the Central Savannah River Area.
