Drawing with Charcoal For Beginners: Step By Step Guide to Drawing Landscapes – Portraits – Animals (Learn to Draw)

Fantastic Instructional Book for the Newbie Artist!
Drawing has always been something I’ve wanted to master, but could never quite figure out how to simplify the process. In Drawing with Charcoal For Beginners, my questions have been answered. The authors of this book begin by showing the newbie artist how to draw spheres, cones, cubes and cylinders. They then demonstrate through step by step instructions just how to use these shapes to create pictures. There are oodles of illustrations in this book to help the new artist master each step. The use of shading to make a picture life-like is well detailed. Drawing eyes and mouths have always been a mystery to me. Most facial features that I have ever drawn, all end up looking the same. John Davidson and Paolo Lopez de Leon have decoded that mystery for me.If drawing portraits, animals and landscapes is something you aspire to do, then Drawing with Charcoal For Beginners is the book for you.I found this book enlightening and would definitely recommend giving it a read.

This is a great book with good information for anyone drawing and painting ...
This is a great book with good information for anyone drawing and painting with charcoalMy only reason for not giving it five stars, is because, like a so many tutorial art books, it immediately advises tracing and transferring the image, instead of teaching how to draw in a natural way, unaided, if we all worked this way, no one would ever learn how to draw or develop their own style and the art world would be a sadder place for it.

DIFFICULT
Beginners?? This reads like a high school or college textbook. I got this to use with middle school students, assuming the Harry Potter book cover indicated it was appropriate for the age of child who is into Harry Potter. The drawing skills that one needs prior to be able to use this guide is also ridiculously difficult. Maybe I should have read the details better in the first place, but this wasn't at all what I had hoped for.

Introduction book needed.
This book is part of a series and it is expected that you have read the introductions which are not in this book. I was not aware of this in the initial description .

Good Book
Th is is a really good guide on how to draw. It's about drawing with charcoal but really, you can learn how to draw with a pencil with this book. This book takes you step by step through many different types of illustrations. It teaches about lighting and shading too.

Not for me
The print book might be OK but Kindle is a waste of time and money....too small to be of value

KMT - Kiss My Teeth! Rubbish!
Ok, the book is THICK and HEAVY, so you think you will get lots of information. I'm sure there are many positive points within the book, but I just didn't get to read it, due to the very poorly scanned pictures. They are so light in reflection that you can't understand the techniques they give. I left it too long to return the book, as I would have done. I had it sitting down for ages, thinking ok this week let me try again but I was just put off with so many pictures that lacked any punch!Buy it, you may find the text useful but if you're hoping to buy it to draw along or review their drawing techniques, it will be money down the drain.Shame, I was excited to learn as the front cover is no reflection of the poor imagery inside. I read a review that said something similar and I thought it can't be that bad. If you buy it, you might say same thing.

Finally an art book that actually teaches!
The first 10 pages have enough material to start to start you on on starting portraiture if you can sketch a little. No extra verbiage. I've taken online video courses, and this book is better than all of them put together.
