Attack on Titan, Part 1 (Limited Edition Blu-ray / DVD Combo)

Nice Series! But One Drawback to this Blu-Ray Collection
The series and animation is great! I'd give it 10/10. But this Blu-Ray disc, in particular, is lacking something: the translation of the notes in between scenes. For example, the note description on the walls or the 3D-gear wasn't translated. I really like reading these because they give some background into the story. But when I go to Hulu or Netflix, I can see it translated. For this reason alone, I give 4/5 stars. If this wasn't an issue, this product would've got an instant 5/5.

Very Graphic, Dark, Gruesome Scenes, Too Much for Us.
Way too dark. I tried to get through 4 episodes hoping it would get better, but just too dark. The animation was good, the character development was good as well, I just couldn't bare all the family members being eaten and shown graphically. I guess some people may be into such horrible, gruesome scenes, but too much for my son and I. We loved Full Metal, Blue Exorcist, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and so many other animes and were recommended to watch this one too, but it was hard to get through just the first 3 episodes. Sorry...

Deep and engaging story
Thoughts: Attack on Titan is an amazingly written story with a dark premise and a lot of action. It’s a gut-wrenching emotional roller coaster and it’s a great anime to introduce to non-anime watchers. Everything about the anime excels, art, story, sound, music. The only part that didn’t do so well with me was the character development. You probably won’t remember anyone aside from the three main characters and Levi.Features: It contains all of season 1 (25 episodes on 4 Blu-rays) with the box cover slip. The box is slightly thicker than a standard Blu-ray case. The cover art is not reversible. It includes both English and Japanese audio. If you’re an anime fan, you’ve mostly likely seen the series already and just want to own a copy to add to your collection. I suggest buying part 1 and part 2 of season 1 instead (it’s a few dollars more). You’d get the DVD copies and the artwork on the box arts are much better in my opinion.

Not a Complete Season! Still a great Anime though...
Loved the episodes that I watched but I could not be more disappointed, when I first paid all 25 were listed, now only 13 available. The title says Season 1 but in reality we're only getting half of Season 1. If you want the full Season 1 you have to buy the Original Japanese Version which is bunk. Shame, shame, shame on Amazon and whoever's responsibility it is to properly label the titles! Get your act together! This is hardly the first incident of improper labeling I have come across.

Japanese Audio is there with Subtitles
I am confused as to why people are saying there is no Japanese audio with subtitles. It is there, it’s default is english, you simply navigate to “setup” and literally change it to Japanese. Both the Blueray and DVD have this option. But other than the menu selection color hard to see, it’s perfect. With AoT coming to an end soon I decided to collect all the seasons on DVD/Blueray and they all are fantastic. I decided to buy S1 part 1 and part 2 separate because of the artwork. Same reason as buying S3 part 1 and 2, I didn’t go for the bundle because of this reason. It’s a little bit expensive but it’s something I wanted to do, obviously if you don’t want to spend the money and don’t have room on the shelf then just buy the whole S1 and S3 collection. Everything about the series is GOATED at this point and if you’re fan pick up the DVD/Blueray’s for yourself.

Blu-Ray Does Not Include Japanese Audio Or English Subtitles, DVD Does. Still A Great Purchase.
Firstly, I would have given this product a 5 star rating, if not for one major omission. If you plan to be watching the Blu-Ray disks, do NOT expect to be able to change the language or add subtitles. The Blu-Ray disks of this anime do not include Japanese languages NOR do they include English subtitles. On the Blu-Ray versions there is only English audio with no subtitles. This was a massive disappointment, as I didn't really care for the dubbing/voice acting done for the English audio on this anime, but it was bearable and the Marathon Mode was a very welcome feature. This anime looks absolutely stunning on Blu-Ray in 1080p, even more so than I thought it looked on Netflix for sure. The case is good quality and the disks are all secure and the artwork is nice. This is still worth it, but be aware that the Japanese audio and the English subtitles are not on the Blu-Ray disks, they are, however, on the DVD disks of the show, which makes no sense to me, but that's a question for Funimation. Definitely worth the pick up still even if just for the DVD copies.

Cool show
Attack on titan is an entertaining show. This season in particular has a slow couple episodes but it gets better. After watching and now rewatching there is stuff that will make you mad about certain characters but you won’t understand until you’ve caught up to where the show is now. Since the show is still on going and has not resolved I can’t say for sure all holes get filled but currently I’m still trying to figure some stuff out. To be clear to anyone unsure whether this is appropriate for kids... it is NOT. The most glaring reason to me is there is frequent bad language including strong language. As I always say I don’t think violence is necessarily a reason kids shouldn’t watch something instead parents need to decide if there kid should see it but I have to disclose this is some pretty strong violence and gore. No sexual stuff but the “Titans” are naked humanoid creatures so some discretion there. Otherwise it’s well done and is enjoyable for a 20something year old guy like me that likes animation. My biggest complaint is that I started watching Sword Art Online before this and all I hear when Eren talks is Kirito, and Eren is kind of an annoying character sometimes.

Happy with the series, the shipping not so much.
The series is great. No issues there. Great series highly recommend it.Ordered this with season one part two and season two. All three were thrown into a bubble wrap envelope and this set had almost all of the pegs, that hold the discs in place, broken off entirely. Had someone taken the time to tape the three together this may not have happened. It ticked me off enough to write about it. but not enough to go through the process of returning it and having it replaced.

No sleeve. Great series.
I was pretty sure that the case was supposed to come in a sleeve (which would say "blu-ray + dvd combo pack" or something on the top like in the picture), but it didn't. It shipped much faster than I expected and all of the disks work great. The series itself is very well animated and the story is faithful to the manga. It's dark, but I love it and the english dub is actually very well done. The menu is a little irritating since the text is white and your selection is grey, so navigating the menu was annoying at first. Also, parents buying this for their kids should note that the series is rated TV MA, which is equivalent to an 18+ TV rating in Canada.

Attack on Titan ~ Complete!
Finally the complete series is out in 1 small box set! I'm personally not a fan of when they split up seasons (part 1, part 2) because of the extra space it takes up on the shelves. This is the version I was waiting for and glad i have picked it up!

love it
Some reviewers were saying that this product does not come with a protective sleeve but mine did. If you love action and horror, this is for you. This is a must have for any Attack on Titan fan out there. The bonus features are ok; I was expecting more than just other anime trailers and episode commentaries but other than that its pretty good. Great themes and animation. FYI this contains the full Japanese opening, as I've seen other DVDs where the Japaneses vocals have been cut out.
