Cat doesn't know whether she likes it or is afraid of it...
Got this for our very energetic and playful young cat since it's been too smokey to let her go outside. She doesn't seem to know what to make of this toy. When we first turn it on, she usually pounces on it a couple times maybe stalks it a little. But after a couple minutes, she will hide from it or watch it suspiciously from afar until we turn it off. I'm not sure if she likes it or is afraid of it. Either way, it certainly occupies her attention.A note about a complaint I've seen on other reviews: Some people are saying the two halves of the ball are too difficult to close, but there's a trick to it. You will never line up the threads like a typical screw top, if you look closely the tracks are all parallel with no beginning or end. You just have to kind of gently force it together as evenly as you can until it clicks and then screw it tight. It's not graceful but it works easily enough.

Not so much interactive as much as constantly rolling around...
For whatever reason, one of our cats loves to play fetch, as a puppy/dog would. For that reason, we thought we'd try getting this so that we weren't coerced by our cat to throw a foam ball around for hours (or until she got bored). This ball does roll around on its own and is rechargeable, which is nice, but the problem is that is CONSTANTLY in motion. Once, it got stuck in one of our bathrooms and the resounding thuds I kept hearing made it sound like the house had a pulse.Cats like prey/toys that seem like they can be caught, this thing just rolls around, bouncing off everything in its path, and never stops. As such, she watches it with fascinated eyes for a moment and then stops bothering with it. If this toy had settings that could be adjusted to modify its rate of movement, so that it would roll intermittently a bit here, a bit there, and made it seem like a "live" creature, it'd be perfect. As is, it's just a moving ball that doesn't interest any of our cats.

Works as described!
I received the first one and charged it right out of the box. The light turned on immediately after plugging it in, so all looked like it would be good. Once charged, I hit the power button and the light turned on. I waited. I waited some more. I kept waiting and unfortunately it was a dud. The light was on but absolutely no movement. I let Amazon know and another was shipped out right away. I charged the new one and once I turned it on, this thing started moving all over the place! I set it down on my tile floor and this thing was rolling around, going down the hall, turned some corners and drew the attention of my cat immediately. If I were to share any cons with you it would be two things:1. This ball struggles with carpet. My carpet isn't a high pile carpet, but this ball can barely move on it2. You have to unscrew the ball to charge it, it splits right in the middle. It unscrews very easily, but getting the threads lined back up to screw it back together is a PAIN. The threads are so tight, it's really difficult to get it started. On one occasion, it took me close to 4 minutes to screw it back togetherThat said, I didn't take any stars off because I knew from reviewers before I ordered it that the ball would struggle on carpet and the thread thing is just a small irritant, not worth lowering the stars for that since the product is otherwise really greatRecommended!

Too much of a one trick pony for cats
Unfortunately this did not live up to my hopes for my cat. Overall the actual design and quality of the ball is nice, and I think if it A) had a tail, that could help maintain a cat's interest, and especially B) if the speed could be switched sporadically from slower movements to faster. As it is, the ball moves continuously at one constant speed. If it stopped momentarily, then started again, going at at faster speed speed then back down, this could definitely maintain interest. But my cat tried to engage it and found it too boring being that it just rolls around at a rather dull pace, and has no frantic energy like prey, so to him it was some stupid human household appliance that held no purpose for him. My dog also found it to be rather odd for about 10 minutes, but 10 minutes of interest from either of them is all I got for $12.00. Now they just completely ignore it as it bumps into their legs and they look at me to play with them, it was worth a shot but the life of the pet owner isn't getting out of play with them that easy 😉 c'est la vie.

A nice complement to laser pointer play
If your cats like to chase a laser pointer (are there any that don’t?) and hunt, then they will enjoy this one. Unlike the rotating car laser toys that sit in one spot on the floor and just spin in a circle, this ball randomly rolls all over the place. It works best on hardwood or firm surfaces but still moves on a carpet (just not as far or as fast). Cats can’t grab or chew this one, but they can practice their stalking skills for sure!Pros: It is rechargeable. Cats can stalk this prey independently around the house. It rolls in a unique pattern every time. It is too big to get stuck under the sofa. It automatically stops after a while on its own.Cons: It’s not quiet since it is made of a hard plastic. You definitely hear it rolling on the hardwood floors and when it’s banging into the floorboards or wooden furniture.I’ve tried many different toys to entertain my indoor only cats and this one is a keeper.

So far, so good - my cat likes this toy
I brought this for my 8 month old kitten to help entertain her when I couldn't play fetch - a game she LOVES. We've only been playing with it for a week now but so far so good. It does intrigue her to keep tracking it down and swatting it around independent of my involvement. Fully charged, it lasts a reasonable amount of time. It will turn itself off after a period of play time but that's usually enough for Sugar for one play session. When we're ready to engage play time with this ball, I just push button again and off she goes. So far, the ball will last at least four play sessions in a day before I recharge the battery. This is a great toy provided it stands up to a reasonable amount of time.
