... first received this item and installed it i was delighted with it
When I first received this item and installed it i was delighted with it. It was perfect for my needs.... A home server tucked away in my closet. As the other reviewer stated the fan on this is LOUD. And comes preset to High. This didnt bother me at first as it was in the closet. but then recently after roughly 3 weeks or so the fan was vibrating and causing alot of noise. I actually thought it was my psu fans starting to fail at first. but when i turned the fan down to low it has stopped the vibrations and noise. It is back working as i would expect now but I would definitely advise putting your fan to low before installing.I may end up returning this item if the noisey fan returns.Pros:-Simple installation.-Plug and Play,essentially.-really convenient for server.Cons:-Loud fan, even when running perfectly and at Low speed.-Cheap fan, which in my case is causing issues. If this item worked perfectly I would give it 4 stars. I take one away for the cheap fan. And one away as my particular one has started to run into issues after 3 weeks of use.

Good quality materials but rubbish fan.
Quality of the materials is great, and looks absolutely stunning. The covers run smooth and the drives work seamlessly. However there is room for serious improvements that make it not recommended for all situations, all related to silent pcs. Specially two issues:- The fan at the back is pure rubbish that works too loud and unnecesarily fast. There is absolutely no situation where you would want a small (80mm) fan spinning at 3000rpm (or 2400 rpm on low (excuse me??)) to cool some disks. Disks don't get that hot, specially on prosumer pcs, where this product will probably be used. Even at 2400rpm the noise is absolutely unbearable. I removed mine right away (easy, just 4 long screws). It would be better if it had a 120mm or 140mm fan spinning at 1000ish rpm, and would be certainly enough.- Where is not a hint of any noise dampening material anywere. It would be great if the covers had some.Overall, the construction is good, compact (fitted in my small Antec Solo) and does what id should do very well. So just take a star for that s***ty fan. Also, the product description in Amazon at the time of this writing is not correct, is a 3 x 5.25 bay case, not 2 x 5.25(I'm spanish. English is not my mother languaje. Bear with me)

Cheap plastic
After installing in computer I inserted a a seagate 3.5 harddrive . There was a large crunch . The drive would not come back out .I had to remove the unit from my pc & take the top off the unit to retrieve the drive . I discovered the eject mechanism was made of a thin piece of plastic that had broke . I have used different manufactures of this type of drive in the past with no problems. I went with the silverstone version because it matched my case. I cant send the unit back because I had to remove the top to get my drive back im not happy

Avoid - unfit for purpose - bad fault tolerances and weak materials used
This needed sturdier components for both eject mechanisms. Both a 2.5" and 3.5" drive ended up getting stuck in my item and I ended up having to unscrew the case in order to push out both drives. The mechanism for the 3.5" drive relied on a plastic hinge which in any case would not have lasted long and had broken in my case and the one for the 2.5" was unable to engage once a drive was inserted. I always read the reviews before buying except in this case and I would urge anyone looking at this to do the same or just AVOID ALTOGETHER!

I cannot get it to work.

Unused, but seems fine
It didn’t fit inside the unit I had bought it to use in; so it’s always sat unused on a shelf at the back gathering dustTherefore in truth, unable to give an accurate or honest appraisal

Made of cheap plastic
This is not fir for purpose. All of the inside is made of plastic. The drives do not fit properly, are hard to insert and even harder to remove often jamming as the plastic front does not match the plastic trays. Avoid at all costs. Not fir for purpose.

the stock fan on this unit is pretty noisy. I replaced it with a Be Quiet ...
Generally well engineered, the only problem with these tool-less racks is that there is a lot of vibration from the hard drives which are essentially "loose" and not screwed down. I had to fit my hard drives with silicon anti-vibration pads. I think this problem is typical of all tool-less racks. Also, the stock fan on this unit is pretty noisy. I replaced it with a Be Quiet branded 80mm fan which is much better.
