Chetak was the famous horse of Maharana Pratap, whom Pratap rode during the Haldighati, June 21, 1576. Chetak laid down his life in this battle and since then has been immortalized in the folklore of India. The Indian Chetak Series is our humble tribute to the faithful and courageous horse Chetak. This superlative chess set "The Indian Chetak II" in Staunton pattern, is made of ebony wood and boxwood. The King proudly stands at 4.2 inches and its base is a robust 1.9 inches. Dark chess pieces are exquisitely crafted in ebony wood. It would be difficult to find a more sumptuous wood than ebony wood for the luxury chess pieces. The texture of the ebony wood is fine and a true pleasure to hold. The deep luster and total blackness of the ebony wood are exceptional that is why it is the most admired wood for luxury chess sets. The opposing pieces are made of boxwood which is traditionally used for white side. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. All chess pieces are expertly carved and triple weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. Super Nice Chess Set and Excellent Service from Chess Bazaar
This chess set is stunningly beautiful. I can't get over how nice it is. The quality of the wood and workmanship is very high. The finish is flawless and the pieces are nicely weighted. They have a nice heft and provide a solid "thunk" when placed on the board. The reseller (Chess Bazaar) had cause to contact me during order fulfillment. Apparently stock of the Chetak II set had been completely depleted. The rep suggested that I might want to consider the Chetak I set (SKU VJ045 of the Chess Bazaar website). As there was little difference, I was fine with the substitution. In any event, resolution of the question involved several back and froth communications. Throughout, the rep was prompt, polite, and very helpful. In short order, I had the set in hand. I rarely write reviews of this length, but Chess Bazaar is a real standout with beautiful products and great service.
