It works Great!
To be honest, I don't know much about music equipment but I was told to get to make my audio better. I can tell the difference from messing with it and I hasn't given me an issues yet. I like it. It was cheap and my audio improved.

Great value for the non-pro or semi-pro
Its not the fanciest thing out there, but it gets the job done. Lots of features and control for a very reasonable price. Makes a huge difference in the recordings of our Pastor's vocals at church

the solution I was looking for
I have two of these now and just ordered a 3rd one, if that helps credit the liking I have of this compressor. I was looking for good 'silent' compression at less than DBX prices, and took a chance on Behringer. Essentially, it seems well built, always works well when I turn it on, and the sound is notably better using it than without, but still silent in that I didn't want a compressor that adds anything to the sound with pumping and breathing and so on. I use mine with analog synthesizers and it makes them sound like they should.. where they are too quiet, they are louder, where they are too loud, they are quieter, so it's a full good sound that still respects dynamics perfectly. The lights actually show what the unit it doing and look cool. The only cons are that I didn't notice any difference with the tube simulation enabled VS disabled and the documentation for how compression works on a basic level is lacking, so I had to learn from other sources. Once I got it set, which took maybe an hour of tweaking, now I don't even have to think about it, just turn it on and enjoy the wonderful sound it makes possible. I always notice quickly if I forget to turn it on. Highly recommended.

Problems with the build quality.
I have had mixed success with Behringer products. In the past, I have purchased a pre-amp and a pair of powered near-field monitors from the company. The pre-amp is adequate, but you can't push it without it getting noisy. The monitors, Truth B2030As, I like very much, although I have had chronic problems with one of them cutting out intermittently, which I'm guessing may be a heat-related issue with a power transistor. In short, their products perform well for the money, but their build quality is not consistent.I gave the Composer Pro-X three stars because I can't say that it's really good or really bad. I haven't had a chance to use it. A properly assembled unit may well be a great tool. Some of the reviews here seem to think so. See also the review at soundonsound.com. But I had to return mine because the moment I turned it on, it buzzed. Not a buzz through the speakers, but an audible buzz coming right through the chassis. It sounded like a flaky transformer, and was simply not acceptable in a studio situation. I've had such uneven experiences with this and other Behringer products as mentioned above that I don't trust their build consistency. It's a pity.

Worth every penny!
Sometimes Behringer can be hit or miss, but they really got it right with this compressor. Even before I had it completely dialed in, I noticed a huge difference in sound quality. I have had mine for awhile now and will admit that I am very impressed with what it is capable of. I use mine mainly on mics run back to a Mackie mixer to an insert. The compression is fantastic, gate works flawlessly. For the price you really cant go wrong with this product. Takes a little time to really get it dialed in, but worth it in the long run. Have had no problems with mine. Manual is very basic but there is a more detailed version on their website that you can download and print. All in all I would recommend this to anyone shopping in this price range.

Decent product, but buyer beware
I rarely write reviews, but I thought it was very important to get this information out there before purchasing. I'm a new podcaster, and I bought this product after a YouTuber demonstrated it. It seemed easy enough so I went for it!I had issues with the first model I received as it made a crunchy sound when audio went through it. I had all the dials set to default, so it seemed to be a defective unit. No big deal, it was in amazon's 30 day return window, so they sent me a fresh unit and off I went! The compressor worked fine for four months, but as of June, I started having crunchy audio again. However, when I bypassed the compressor, no crunchy audio. Clearly I found the faulty component. The real problem began with Behringer's customer service. The man I emailed with was nice enough, but first, they were making me pay to ship it back. As a recent college graduate, I'm not making tons of money and after sinking a good chunk of change into my podcasting setup, I was really hurt to hear I would have to pay somewhere around $40 to ship this back... after only four months of use. Here's where it gets worse - Behringer refuses to replace items for you, they "fix" them. Knowing it would be a week or two beforeI got my compressor back, I package it up in the original packaging and sent it to the repair center. I got a call from a very nice staffer at the repair center to learn they had received it. I followed up the next week to check on the status of the repair to learn it would be about a month before I got the item back! We all know that in podcasting, consistency is key.Seeing as I've had so many issues with their compressor and seeing as their support is anything but fast, I have to recommend that people stay far away from this item.
