Easy setup and does what it claims very well
I picked this up along with the 2-adapter kit (TPL-408E2K) to get a faster network in my house between a few devices that would be slugs over WiFi.People say that they should be 'inside' the same circuit in the house, which mine are not which could be the cause of the slightly slower speeds. Still far exceeding my wireless, but still. This multi-port one is downstairs by the TV and media center, both of which get a network cable. I had my NAS downstairs too, and will likely move it down to keep it cooler (upstairs room is getting a lot of sun and stays warmer on average). It get relatively warm with use (you can rest your hand on it though), but it also seems to go into a powersave mode shortly after no data is detected and cools off to ambient. By the way, it uses 2.1 watts and 0.03 amps while on/working! Watching it for a while reveals the activity light flashing - maybe to check for activity or another device checks the network to see what's on and available? Either way, it's cool until I use it where it warms up a bit.I used the included CD to configure them to my liking, but otherwise I just plugged this one in downstairs after the two single adapters were already plugged in and working. I press the button one of the 'singles' and the button on this one, and voila, connection. This also plugs into regular American wall outlets (standard or Decora) without interfering with the adjacent outlet. Also, it's not using a ground prong.Being that this is downstairs in the TV room and the other two adapters are upstairs in the bedrooms, I am guessing the circuit breakers might interfere a bit. I get transfer speeds of about 6-7 Megabytes per second. Far more than required for streaming HD video via Netflix or streaming movies from the NAS to the media center.I've used it for a couple of months at the most now with no problems and I've unplugged it for a bit while rearranging wiring and then plugged it back in and it retains all the settings. That's exactly what I wanted, so I am very satisfied.

Plug and Play
I bought this to replace an existing Trendnet powerline adapter (TPL-306E2K) that came in a kit. It worked flawless but the problem was that it only had a single ethernet port and I now have multiple ethernet enabled devices in the area where it was installed. I did a bit of research and found that this would meet my needs. Included in the packaging of this item are the following:- documentation, warranty info, etc- adapter- 6ft. CAT5e ethernet cable- some sort of driver/software discI unboxed and installed this in less than 5 minutes.1) plug adapter into the wall2) plug the ethernet cable from the adapter to your device3) doneSetup was really that simple. I didn't even have to sync it with my other adapter. After completing the above steps, you're off to receiving a stable, wired connection. There's no tweaking or settings in sight to configure.**********There are a few more things worth mentioning that don't specifically relate to the product. First, Amazon had the best price. Second, the overall shopping experience and shipping was awesome as usual. Lastly, the package on the outside was nearly destroyed but the product and box was unaffected.**********UPDATE 12-16-2013My adapter died on me today. Amazon is sending a replacement which should arrive within a week. Hopefully the replacement lasts much, much longer. This is my first time using the return process with Amazon and it seems painless. I drop the item off to a UPS store near me with the shipping label and everything is already paid for while the new item is already on its way in the mail. I've paid nothing out of pocket and the process took less than five minutes to get going. I still feel that the rating of the product is accurate despite me receiving a faulty product. There will be a few bad items here and there, that's just the way manufacturing works especially on a large scale. If the replacement unit is defective then I will update this review to warn potential buyers of this before purchasing

Reliable; works with other Trendnet Powerlines; able to stream video
I paired this TPL-4052E Trendnet 4 port powerline with a Trendnet 1 port TPL-406E that is wired directly to my DSL router. I have been using the 1 port powerline for about 6 months, and have been using this 4port powerline for about 2.5 months. Both the TPL-406E and the TPL-4052E worked right out of the box when I plugged them in and pressed the "sync" button for 3 seconds to link the trendnets together. I assigned static IP addresses to the trendnets by assigning the MAC address a static IP address on my router. You can also use the provided software to rotate your encryption key and assign static IP addresses as well. I suggest you go ahead and use one of the two methods to assign static IP addresses to your trendnets. You CANNOT use a surge protector or power extension cord with these powerlines as they will not work then, you have to plug them directly into your A/C outlet. I have two outlet A/C power plugs and I am able to use the second power outlet for other devices and this powerline does not cover up the 2nd of 2 A/C power outlets. I have a house constructed in the mid-1980's with copper (not aluminum) electrical wiring that followed building code for electrical wiring at this time, and I am connecting between 2 separate rooms. I am using this to extend my wired network from a back bedroom where my DSL and router are to the living room with a home media PC. I was previously using a wireless card in my home theatre PC and experienced choppiness when streaming video with netflex and Amazon videos. After I hooked up the trendnet, there is rarely any choppiness in my streaming now. I have 7Mb DSL and using speedtests I receive 5.5-6Mbps over the Powerlines to my media center PC. I occasionally plug in a laptop to the 2nd port of the 4 port Trendline. I don't notice any degradation of the signal when 2 devices are plugged in. I'm glad I gave these a try instead of trying to run ethernet cabling through the house.

Bought as an add on to another pair and works perfectly. Netflix streaming at full 1080 on an old 1950s house.
