ALWAYS buy the most expensive art supplies you can afford - your art will instantly get better!
I’m a big fan of Derwent pencils but I wanted to try a top of the line graphite pencil & see if there is a difference. Yes there is. With art supplies, price reflects quality - that’s why I could only afford 1 Caran Grafite. I went for the 9B which is very dark & smears perfectly to create shades & depth. It works well w my Derwent set & I plan to buy more Caran when my budget allows. ALWAYS buy the most expensive art supplies you can afford - your art will instantly get better!

Unconventionally used, but excellent.
I bought this for a very specific, not drawing purpose, a "violin vaguery" which I am not about to discuss. It was the pencil which best seemed to suit my need, and I am well pleased. If I don't lose it, I might never need another. So, don't go by me.
