I'm a beginner, and I love it!
While I don't have any experience with other similar whistles to measure this one against, I can offer a few thoughts about the Feadog Original Irish Whistle I purchased recently. Construction is sturdy, and has a nice brushed brass finish which makes it look somewhat like you would expect a professional instrument to look. Though the mouthpiece is made from molded green plastic, it appears to be quite strong and damage-resistant. The whistle is not as easy to learn as I was originally led to believe, but after figuring out that breath-control was the key I have been able to play a reasonable tune. For just $12 or so, it is well worth my investment and has already brought me that much enjoyment, and I've only had it a week! I would cheerfully recommend to friends who have the time to learn to play it.

Wonderful Instrument
This magnificent little D whistle made by Feadog of Ireland is a brilliant whistle to either get started with or to play on professionally. Although its clarity of tone is less than perfect (especially on the high register) it has a pretty concentrated, traditional sound.Regarding it's tuning, it is very well in tune with itself. Being a non-tunable whistle, you may have a little difficulty playing with other D or G instruments, but I am not entirely sure as I have not tried playing it with other people. In terms of durability I can safely tell you it will definitely be able to take a beating due to its simple and solid structure.Overall it is a nice little instrument, nice if you just want a cheap one to see how you like them, but also great for professional players.

This is a good tin whistle
This is a good tin whistle, I like the way it sounds as well as its color. Even though its simple with only six holes its still a real instrument and practice is need to really reach its potential. What I mean by that is if you haven't played a wind instrument before (myself not having play one since 1st grade music class on the recorder) your gonna have to learn how to use different types of breaths to play it well. Its not very hard, just its not blow anyway you want and move your fingers and it sounds as if your a professional there is more to it then that. Its a solid whistle, doesn't feel cheap and the fipple feels very secure, it has moved or felt loose at all. The brass on mine has started to wear off slightly on the bottom where my thumbs rest also on the holes, but that's just from playing it so much not any fault of the whistle quality in my opinion. The whistle came with instructions on how to play it and in the instructions is three finger charts for some simple songs to play.Only reason I'm giving it four and not five stars is the price. Its not expensive just it cost almost as much as the Feadog Pro D whistle which is made from nickle not brass like this one, is thicker and suppose to have a richer sound. I think it should cost less being one of Feadog's entry level whistle in comparisons to the Pro D's. I would still recommend this whistle I like it a lot and by no means is it bad its really good just you might want to get the Pro D since its almost the same price at the time of writing this.

Easy playing whistles
I purchased these for a pennywhistle class that I taught. I bought a few whistles that were in the same price range, and selected the Feadog ones after testing them out. While they aren't very expensive, I was impressed by the tone the Feadog whistles had. They were not too shrill, while being easy blowing. You didn't have to expend a lot of breath to get nice sound out of them.We had people in the class who had a wide range of musical experience - those who had never played an instrument to highly experienced musicians. And ALL of them were able to pick these up and start making music quickly. If I teach this class again, I will buy the Feadog whistles again.

Fun for the value
This is a nice product. Good for beginners and good for the value. Easy to use, nice sound. I just wish it came in a protective case instead of a soft, plastic box.

You need to modify this!
This is a subpar whistle out of the box but with a little modification this whistle can be changed into a really good whistle for the price. Jerry Freeman sells 'tweaked' (ie. Modified) versions of this whistle for about $40 but for next to nothing you can get yours almost as good as his. If you don't have 40 bones for a Freeman tweaked whistle then read on.MODIFICATION:What you want to do is boil a cup of water and submerge the whistle head (the fipple) into it for about thirty seconds then wrap the head in a paper towel to get a better grip on it and then pull and twist to get the head off. Reheat in the water as necessary to soften the glue that is holding it in place and keep pulling and twisting. It will come off eventually. Once off, get some of that poster putty you use to hold up papers on walls (or you can use something similar like modelling clay, which is what I used) and fill the cavity that is UNDER the channel that you blow through. You want to fill it until it's completely flush with the air hole otherwise you won't get the result you're looking for. You can Google this process for more info but the result will be an amazing whistle for the little effort.DISCLAIMER BEFORE MODIFYING:Obviously you run the risk of damaging the whistle by taking the fipple off but don't go too crazy and you should be fine. You will also probably void any warranty or chance of returning the item if you do this. Also, results may vary. I've tried this procedure on three different whistles and the Feadog benefited the most from it.REVIEW OF WHISTLE AS IS - OUT OF THE BOX:This whistle is subpar, buzzes, and sounds tinny and dirty. It's okay if you have a child who wants to make noise and play twinkle twinkle little star on something but otherwise, if you're looking for a serious instrument, I would buy a Jerry Freeman tweaked whistle or a Tony Dixon Trad for about 3x the price. As is I would give this whistle 2 stars. Modified I give it 3 stars.
