Mastering Vmware Vsphere 6

Conversational tone
I purchased this book after passing the VCP5.5-DCV exam. Nick's Mastering vSphere 5.5. had helped me immensely in understanding virtualisation and vSphere. His conversational tone in the book is the reason why I stayed faithful to the series and purchased the 6.0 version in preparation for the VCP6-Cloud exam and to see how he explains the new features i.e., x-vswitch, x-vcenter and long distance vMotion, SMP-FT, content library, VVOLs, VSAN2, Network IO Control 3 and multiple TCP/IP stacks.A colleague is studying VCP6.0 exam by reading vExpert blogs. I don't have time for this. I need everything together in one volume (on my iPad) so I can read during those moments in the day when I do have spare time.Another reviewer mentioned that the maximums on one page was not updated. I'll keep a table nearby at all times just to compare.

Well written for a dry topic
Not really a gripping topic so I found it hard to read but they did a good job of making a very dry topic interesting. If you work in IT today you are sure to interact with VMware on some level. This was the best book I could find on the topic and quite well written. I am sure the only people reading this will be professional Systems Engineers wanting to improve their VMware skills and would strongly recommend this book to you.More generally Sybex has a very good writing style guide for their authors and for me Sybex is the go to publisher for IT books.

This is the best book on vSphere 6 in English
This is the best book on vSphere 6 in English, and I own every VMware book I could find on Amazon. I love it because it's not tailored toward exam objectives but rather literally mastering the technology as the book suggests. There is some criticism that this book is too much like it's former editions, but that's not a problem if you just buy this one.

if you do already have Mastering VMware vSphere 5.5 you can be a little bit disappointed
3.5 pointsI bought printed version. If you already have Mastering VMware vSphere 5.5 and expect as me that you will find comprehensive information regarding new features in vSphere 6 you can be a little bit disappointed. I found for example in the book that Microsoft SQL Express Edition is included as embedded database in Windows vCenter version what seems to be a copy from vSphere 5.5 book edition. In fact vProgress is included in vSphere 6 for both vCenter Server versions ( Windows and Virtual Appliance). The book is still good but all points out that so complex book would need more time to be well prepared.Wrong technical details in the book (printed version):1. Windows vCenter Embedded Database is Microsoft SQL Express , should be vProgress2. Supported databases for the windows installation are "Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2, SP3 Express, SQL 2008 R2, 2012 and 2014, Oracle 11g and 12c , should be "Supported databases for the windows installation are SQL 2008 R2, 2012 and 2014, Oracle 11g and 12c as well as the option to use an embedded vPostgres database".3. Working with Oracle Database is "To use Oracle 10g nad 11g", should be "To use Oracle 11g nad 12c"4. ESXi maximums: Number of Logical CPUs is 320, should be 4805. Long distance vMotion RTT (round-trip time) latency is 100 ms, should be 150 milliseconds

I found the book a very interesting review of vSphere ...
I found the book a very interesting review of vSphere 6 and its features. It is however just a basic update of the same material covered in the other Mastering VMWare vSphere series, except with screen shots and feature updates for vSphere 6. I believe this is a worthwhile purchase to get a handle on many of the new features that are available in vSphere 6, as well as update you on updates to existing features.

It's filling in some of the holes in my knowledge
So far a good book. I've started at the beginning and working through it a chapter at a time on a test bed. It's filling in some of the holes in my knowledge.

If you liked 5. 5 you'll love this one
I have both this and the mastering 5.5. If you liked 5.5 you'll love this one. It's just as good if not better. For anyone complaining about errors, I'd say that's just expected in a first edition. I'm sure there is a correction site someplace.
