About the Author James Rex Foster was educated at a selective central school in North Lincolnshire and after demobilisation served as a stipendiary lay worker. He gained a diploma in social studies in 1953, which was followed by work as a teacher in a boys' remand home. In 1955 he became a lecturer at Rugby College and co-founded Rugby Archaeological Society. James retired from Rugby College in 1987 at the age of sixty, and at the age of eighty-four obtained his master's degree in local and regional history. James is a justice of the peace (supplementary list) and a member of the Institute of Welfare Officers. Read more
