Great book if you know the basics
Great book if you know the basics. Before I opened this book the only thing I really knew about Excel was how to enter data into columns. The very beginning pages of the book tell you that you really need to know the basics of excel in order to use the book. I quickly realized my level of knowledge was not with the authors were looking for. So I went back to my Excel program and went through the tutorials and got the basics down.. Once that’s done, this is a great book! It will really show you the ins and outs of how to analyze data, and how to set up the program in the easiest ways possible in order to collect the analysis you need. I felt it was well organized, and there was no need to read the book from start to finish… You could pick a chapter of something specific you needed to learn about, and there was enough information within the chapter to get you where you needed to go. If you look carefully at the title of the book it says it all… Data analysis for dummies, not Excel for dummies… As long as you understand that, the book will be of value to you.

Good supplementary material but you will probably still need more resources
Ive read a couple of "for dummies" books and have always found them to be decent for conveying some information but not all. Frequently you'll find they glaze over info you might find difficult and will give you more than necessary info on stuff you might not need. This book is pretty good if you have some previous experience or at least a little bit of knowledge of Excel. I think it's good at explaining main ideas but with the technical skills it's obviously a good idea to get multiple resources to help you figure out different ways of solving problems since Excel has many, many ways to do things. Not bad for a beginner or intro book, but don't expect to learn it all perfectly with just this book.Online examples and tutorials are also available for the text which is very handy!Would definitely make sure to make use of those as well.

Explains Well
Over winter break my petroleum engineering college student son has been teaching himself the advanced techniques in this book. He has already taken a college course in Excel databases and did more at a summer internship. The only way to learn is hands on with data using this as a guide. The book explains the steps well. Rating 4 stars = Like It.

You need to know what you want to look things up
Good book, missing some new data for charts, but for the basics it covers most everything you need to know. Excel help contains a lot of useful tips and it’s already part of excel
