So Much Better Than the Movie, a Fabulous Read!
I could not put this book down once I started reading it. The writing was smooth, and the real-life stories of all of the boys in the boat were incredible. Joe Rantz survived unbelievable hardship during his life and yet somehow he kept on moving through every obstacle. Rowing really helped him to heal and to succeed in living a happy life. All of the the people involved in the University of Washington rowing program were dedicated to rowing excellence and the gold medal that their crew won was the product of this dedication. Lastly, it was great to read about how Joe and Joyce grew together and supported each through tough times. They sure don't make 'em like that anymore!

You feel like you are in the boat with the Boys
Very detailed account of life in that era and the many hardships and barriers that 9 men overcame to row as one and refuse to lose. Loved the book much better than the movie but both had the same ending USA (aka UofW crew) won by a razor thin margin. The racing hull - The Husky Clipper - was on display in Husky Student Union Building (HUB) for decades afterwards.

Book as good as the movie
We enjoyed the film Immensely and I told my wife on the way home that I had to get the book. Usually, people say the “book is better than the movie,” but the movie is so good, I would call it a draw. It is an excellent book and I’m very glad I bought it.

It's probably the best book I've ever read
So, I was looking for good sports books and I went through many lists and recommendation sites - this book was on every site/list. But this is not only a good sports books. It is an amazing story and has everything in it - from Hitler's Germany to Seattle. Go for it.
