Simple recipes and ingredients lists, great to start re-enactment style cooking!
An excellent first cook-book to provide inspiraton for new re-enactors or anyone who wants to recreate and try out some Viking age recipes.Pretty pictures and simple to follow recipes. Also has a list of suitable ingredients found in Viking age digs so you can create your own versions suitable for on-site cooking and demonstrations.Seasoned cooks (sorry for the pun) may find they have a number of the skills/recipes described already, but as a starter cookbook and ingredients list Iād highly recommend this volume to start off your Viking age cooking adventures!

Great recipes, easy to follow
Wonderful book! Interesting foods, great recipes, shown simply and easy to follow. Great pictures. So many cookery books are so complex they become off-putting. This is simple food, made extraordinary, and with a wonderful sense of the past; flavours and combinations long lost, brought to life. I bought it for research, but will be using it in the kitchen!

Great resource for re-enactors
Having chatted with the author at a show and sampled some of the things in the book it was a no brainer to buy it. Wonderful resource of recipes, simple to follow and a good suggested reading list and breakdown of available ingredients. If you're looking for straight forward viking age recipes to either prep beforehand, brew or to make at a show this is a great buy.

Great book!
Great book!I have made the hall stones and honey oat cakes for an event on the weekend and had only positive feedback. I am a new re-enactor and think I have found my passion in cooking (apart from archery š )

A Most Excellent Book
This is a book of simple historical recipes. It's absolutely brilliant for enthusiasts of early medieval food, with nice clear pictures and simple instructions. They are all well researched and easy to cook over an open fire.I'm really looking forward to trying out some of these recipes as a re-enactment event.

Perfect, eat like a true Viking
Absolutely wonderful book, cannot wait to try and make everything in the book and even try some at events. I love the guides at the back herbs, spices, meat & fish. Have been recommending this book everywhere.

Good introduction to ancient culinary methods
The reader needs to remember that the recipes are trying to be authentic. Consequently, some dishes are as highly flavoured as modern dishes. The breads do not rise anywhere near as much as modern bread products (to be expected). That said, they still taste rather good!
