Overall Good Gaff
Overall well constructed. Should last for many years of service. The metal part is actually quite a bit more orange than shown in the picture. Not a huge con, but I thought it would be more silver.I cannot say whether or not it will float, as I have not tested that. However, it is very lightweight and will probably float. The lanyard seems good enough. Also, included is a protector for the point. It is decent quality and better than others I have seen.

to use to pull/relocate anchor rode chain in the anchor locker on my sailboat that piles up under the windlass and it does that
I bought this for a totally different purpose than fishing, to use to pull/relocate anchor rode chain in the anchor locker on my sailboat that piles up under the windlass and it does that job just fine. it seems well made with a very sharp point and will double for fishing IF I ever catch anything.

Not good - read this before you buy
I bought this gaff twice. And twice it has been terrible. Here is why.The rubber handle slipped off on my first gaff. I slid it back on and it seemed to hold. Until I stuck the gaff in a bonito. The rubber grip pulled completely off, and the gaff shaft began bobbing up and down in the water. As I wrangled in the beaten up fish, the gaff simply filled with water and sunk.I shrugged it off to "things happen" and bought the gaff again. This weekend, I stuck the gaff in a 17 pound tuna. As I grabbed the rubber handle and began my lift, guess what?!? I was left with a wrist strap and rubber handle. My fish shook the gaff, yet stayed on the line. I reeled the fish in while watching my gaff, once again, fill with water and sink. quite simply, it does not float without the handle. And the handle does not stay attached. Terrible product. I made the mistake of buying it twice!

Does not slide easily
The I received looked very well made. I found that it does not slide to open very easily. If it is not lined up perfectly you have to continually adjust it to move. I am going to keep it because I will just keep it fully open. If you need to make it slide stay away from this one. I might return it to see if I just got a lemon.

Great product
Worked perfect for controlling king mackerel while on my kayak. Very sharp and does not get dull. I have used it and caught multiple fish and it is still very sharp. Very easy to use and control larger fish.
