Great Kismet
Marlene Dietrich is one of my favourites in that movie. she wears the nicest dresses and hair. This movie is meeting my expectations.

Italian import with English audio
I always worry buying DVDs that are European imports. Will the English audio work? It did with this one. The film wasn't great, but the product itself was super.

baghdad was never like this!
Old Baghdad as only Hollywood could imagine it!!Visually this is stunning and is camper than a row of tents(makes Golden Girls look like Rambo!)Marlene's costumes, hairdo's and dancing have to be seen to be believed,in fact this whole film is a delicious confection which,at times, makes your jaw drop and not always for the right reason! This is a real study in ott sets (stagey at times but still incredible),dialogue and costumes (and we are talking the mens costumes as well here) .If you like that sort of thing then this is one of the best and its all in glorious technicolour!!!All of this is well restored but I did have to have the volume turned up as the soundtrack did seem a little weak .

Poor transfer and no subtitles
The transfer is pretty fuzzy and has seriously degraded colours. Hardly what one expects from Glorious Technicolor. It looks like a copy of an old VHS tape.It also has no subtitles, and this is not stated by Amazon or on the case. This is a pity, as I remember it as being very entertaining. I sent it back.

Magnificent ado of end WWII - escapism, like the Ballets Russes worth watching just for the costumes
Magnificent ado about a meagre yet dreamy script of end WWII - escapism, like the Ballets Russes worth watching even if just for the costumes, the decor, Marlene's hairdo and the ( in these days frowned upon ) exotism

Kismet (1944)
I have always loved the 1955 musical version of Kismet with Howard Keel but this version with Ronald Coleman gives the background story much better. I wish the story line for the 1955 version was more along the lines of the 1944 version as it was more interesting. Loved this version too (1944).
